–Select ONE of the following prompts and write an argumentative essay responding to it. Your essay should have a clear thesis, and use textual evidence (no particular amount, but be sure it’s well chosen) and analysis to support that thesis. Word count 850 – 900 words.
1- The problem of evil is this: how could an all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful God create a world that contains evil in it? Augustine offers a powerful answer to this question. For this prompt, answer (i) whether you find it convincing, (ii) specifically why or why not, (iii) what you think this means for the problem of evil (for example, in the argument offered in the Stanford Encyclopedia article). Note that for (iii), you may simply agree that it disproves the existence of the omni-god; if so, be sure to explain why you think this is the case.
2- Greek philosophy, Hebrew Scripture, and Buddhist teachings each have a view about evil. For this essay, select two of these worldviews. Then, compare the two. You might explain what one of them would say in answer to the other’s view about the nature of good and evil. For example, if a Buddhist encountered the Theory of Forms, what might they say in response? You might also simply explain which is more plausible to you any why.

–Note: You must use a consistent citation format throughout your essay. APA, MLA, or Chicago are all fine—just be sure you are consistent and do use citations.
