Compare and contrast the U.S. Constitution and the Arizona Constitution. Discuss three findings that account for the significant differences in length. Include at least one source to support your answer.

1. The US Constitution works well with the Arizona Constitution. Arizona’s governing documents explain the rights of the citizens and how problems can be solved (Beienburg et al., n.d.). Federal and state constitutions have three main branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. Both also have a House of Representatives and a Senate. The term time for each House of Representatives is two years. A last commonality is that the Constitutions have articles and amendments granting citizens’ rights.
When comparing two documents, there will be differences. According to the Arizona Constitution, there are two representatives for each of the thirty districts (Arizona, n.d.). In the United States Constitution, the number of representatives is contingent on the size of the population of the state (Oak Hill, n.d.). A second key difference is that the Arizona Constitution has been amended over 100 times (Arizona, n.d.), and the United States Constitution has only been amended twenty-seven times (Oak Hill, n.d.). The Arizona Constitution has been amended more than the United States Constitution because a state constitution is more detailed with citizens’ and local government’s responsibilities that could change more frequently (Beinenburg et al., n.d.). A final difference between the state and federal constitutions is regarding the Executive branch. In Arizona, the executive branch members are nominated in a primary election and then elected by the popular vote (Arizona, n.d.). For the President of the United States, the President is elected by the electoral college (Beienburg et al., n.d.). Arizona’s Constitution was written more progressively and allows the people of the state to have more involvement in the government.

When comparing and contrasting both Constitutions, it is fantastic to find out that while both express the same language in the use of civil liberty- Arizona expresses more in their Constitutions with a more expensive breakdown of about 49,000 words long, which is shorter than many other constitutions and goes into extensive detail in aiding its people. If the U.S. government feels its strength of limited power can’t be muscled by the U.S. government, states like Arizona step up and show why voting should be more highly governed by the people who were to their civic duty. For example, in Hon. George’s article, “When comparing federal and state constitutions, the cardinal distinction is that the U. S. Constitution embodies limited powers, whereas state constitutions represent expansive grants of authority. Moreover, the absence of a federal “general welfare clause” or “police power” further reduces the range of power that can exist at the federal level. Arizona citizen participation is when people feel a sense of commitment to their neighborhood and are actively involved in activities to improve the quality of life there(civic- duty) and with the change of 1910 under President William Howard Taft- saw its first significant use of allowing people more control of decisions of quality to life local and state government changes and more add-ons of approach to strengthening local, state and federal democracy.
