Cases involving Stanford, Harvard and M.I.T. are fueling skepticism over the thoroughness of research — even from the academic world’s biggest stars. The next big battle over higher education promises to look at plagiarism.

Write an Objective 200-word essay that critically discusses the NYT article.
This is not an opinion piece, or personal writing, (so do not use “I’ in your statements). Rather, approach your writing as an analysis of what is read and interpreted. [For example: This New York Times article offers a fascinating examination on… ]
Remember to use the name of the news source, name the author, date, and other pertinent identifying factors. Consider the controversy discussed. What does it say about plagiarism, the state of research and honesty in academia? Who are the targets of these allegations? Why are factors such as politics, race, gender and “prestige” universities significant? What roles do fairness or bias play in these charges? What lessons can be learned by college students from these events suggested in this article?
Main Points: Identify four (4) main Points/statements relevant to ‘Plagiarism’ discussed in the article. Briefly explain why they are meaningful.
Quotes/Citations: Cite three quotes from the article that could be used in a research paper. Remember to note who states the quote and page #.
Stats/Data: How are statistics or other evidence-based “data” used in the article to help build the argument? Cite three examples.
Vocabulary/Grammar: List and define six (6) new vocabulary that you can use to help vary your writing. How are these words used in the article? What do you note about the grammar/punctuation used that might be useful to improving your writing style?
Secondary Sources: Include three (3) articles on plagiarism in traditional newspaper/magazine sources (examples: NYT, Wall St Journal, Forbes, etc) Write a brief 2-3 sentence annotation that describes what the article is about.

(c) One article on college plagiarizing (any year since 2000)
