In the process of producing oil and gas, other impurities, naturally present in the earth, also are
produced. However, as these impurities are removed, they generate wastes that must be disposed of
properly and air pollutants that must be minimized. Similarly, health and safety are also a concern
because of the operations and chemicals used in oil and gas production. Chapter 17 covers briefly,
these environmental, health, and safety concerns. Your assignment is to write a paper on both:
(1) an environmental regulation
(2) a health and safety regulation
Here what you should include in your assignment for each part;
(1)- Find the Federal Regulation (EX: CFR 29) and explain (a) the regulation, (b) requirements of
the regulation, and (c) find an incident of an oil and gas company violating that regulation and any
outcomes of the violation. (300-500 words)
(2)- Unlike the environmental regulations that might fall under a variety of federal laws, the health
and safety requirements that impact the oil and gas industry are all part of the Occupational Safety
and Health Act (OSHA), so your choices here will be of some major safety and health provision that
impacts the oil and gas industry, (EX: HAZWOPER, confined space, hazard communication
standard, noise exposure, etc.) Find an incident of an oil and gas company violating that regulation
and any outcomes of the violation. (300-500 words)
Your submission must be an MS word document containing your response. The organization, format,
specificity, and usability will be weighted in the grading assessment. Make sure to answer all questions
and have your sources properly referenced (APA format) at the end.
