Health care organization assessments are conducted by agencies and organizations such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission. Begin this assignment by reviewing the Joint Commission’s “Accreditation Process Overview” and “Implement Standards to Improve Care” (focusing on standards information for hospitals) and watching the videos provided in topic Resources.
Using the Joint Commission resources, write a paper that includes the following:
Describe the purpose of the Joint Commission.
Explain the Joint Commission survey process and how it relates to the accreditation process.
Assess the Joint Commission Standards. Provide a minimum of two examples of standards for quality of patient care or national patient safety goals.
Explain how the Joint Commission Standards can improve quality of patient care.
Describe the intracycle monitoring (ICM) profile and the focused standards assessment (FSA) process.
Describe why it is important for an organization’s performance to be evaluated by outside agencies/surveyors and how this evaluation can be a catalyst for change.
Summarize how a leader would present the significance of understanding accreditation and assessment information to the team.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
