Assignment: In this project, students will utilize reflections from their Joy Journal assignment on
joy & culture to craft a research essay on cultural practices, objects, or ideas that bring them joy.
This essay can be accomplished through a variety of multimodal formats (audio, video, text).
, the essay should not have an argument, but instead fully explain and explore
the cultural practices, objects or ideas detailed. The essay should carefully explain their central topic
through clear, direct, and appropriate research throughout. The essay should be 1200-1500 words in
length (or 10-12 minutes) and utilize 6-8 verified sources correctly cited in footnote style (or at the
end of the video).
, for your research you can utilize online sources that are verified (have a
credentialed author & have a place of publication). Since this is a research-forward essay, you should
be utilizing more scholarly sources than primary or secondary. These sources should be cited in
MLA format at the end of the essay. The essay should also utilize in-text citations for any
summaries, paraphrases, or quotations.
Design (Written Essay): You must use a word processing program to complete this
assignment as a written text. If you are using Pages or Google Docs, please export the files as
.doc or .docx file files. I will be using the Comment and Track Changes features to edit and
comment on your essay, so exporting the file is essential to providing feedback and grading this
assignment.
Audience: The audience for this essay should be those who are interested in learning more about
the cultural practice, object, or idea that you’re explaining or exploring. You should not assume any

Journal relevant to this project are due on the date below. In these blog entries, you should begin to

Board. You will also need to submit this via iCollege for a completion grade. Failure to do so will
result in an automatic 5% reduction off the project grade. Finally, the final for this project is due
