This assignment will focus on the importance of a literature review and the key components that should
be included. It is recommended that you choose an article to review that is related to the topic that you
have chosen to write your research proposal on. This assignment should help you to critically evaluate
the key components of a literature review so that you will have a framework for writing your own
literature review in your research proposal.
Instructions:
Locate a scholarly research article published within the last 5 years that contains a well elaborated literature review of prior studies. Then
you will write a 1-2 full pages (single-spaced) critical analysis that address the following components of the
literature and upload to the assignment file. You will also upload the journal article that you are using
for this assignment to the assignment file.
Components of the Literature Review:
• Did the first sentence provide a general introduction? Identify the topic of study.
• Was the area of interested defined/explained? Give an example of a sentence within the
introduction that explains the area of interest.
• Were there brief summarizations of the results of each study discussed with thin literature
review? Provide examples.
• Was the literature thematically organized? Identify themes used.
• Was there a logical organization of results (i.e. consistent results, inconsistent results)? Give an
example of two results that are consistent with each other. If mentioned, give an example of
inconsistent results.
• Was there a summary state statement that describes the sum of the results? If so, provide this
statement.
• Did the conclusion of the literature analyze gaps in the literature? Suggestions for future
