PLEASE USE THE FILE I PROVIDED
This activity compares greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect on Venus, Earth, and Mars. You will build virtual atmospheric models of Venus, Earth, and Mars. Use this Atmospheres of Terrestrial Planets Worksheet to complete this activity. You will submit your completed worksheet for grading. Before you begin, review each planet’s atmospheric makeup.
The table lists the percentages of gases that make up each planet’s atmosphere. The distance from the Sun influences planetary temperature, but greenhouse gases and atmospheric density also significantly impact surface temperature. Venus has an extremely dense atmosphere, with a surface pressure of more than 90 times Earth’s. Conversely, Mars has an extremely thin atmosphere, with a surface pressure less than 1/100th of Earth’s.

Criteria
Models
10 points
All pie charts are included with complete accuracy of planetary composition.
9–7 points
All pie charts are included, but there are few errors in planetary composition.
6–0 points
There are several errors in the pie charts or some or all pie charts are missing.
Reflection Questions
20–17 points
Answers to questions include complete responses with few to no errors. Answers demonstrate an adequate understanding of terrestrial atmospheres.
16–12 points
Answers to questions include complete responses with some errors. Answers demonstrate a partial understanding of terrestrial atmospheres.
11–0 points
Answers to questions include either incomplete responses or contain several errors. Answers demonstrate a limited understanding of terrestrial atmospheres.
