Project Dimensions
The socio-technical approach to project management involves leading the project on a multidimensional level. From the technical dimension, the project involves thorough planning by creating a proper WBS, analyzing the projects scope, and allocating the resources. The sociocultural dimension involves leading the team, having problem-solving skills, and using the team-based approach to improve teamwork (Larson, 2017).
Project Orientation
My project was constructing a boutique hotel from scratch, and the project is strategically oriented as it involves setting long-term goals and establishing the companys long-term vision. Regarding the socio-technical approach, the building and operating of a hotel rely on both social and technical sides. It involves carefully planning the project and breaking it down to deliverables. Moreover, it requires strong leadership to set the vision and values, increasing the teams commitment toward them. (Larson, 2017)
Dimensions and the Outcome
The dimensions were selected based on the projects needs. As the construction and operation of the hotel is a massive project, it requires careful planning. Thus, technical dimensions were significant. Understanding the scope, creating a powerful WBS, and distributing resources effectively minimized the deviations from the plan. Moreover, proper leadership means a lot in this project, as the teams commitment to the projects purpose is crucial. The team-based approach led to better team coordination, and overall, building a hotel was estimated to be finished under the budget and before the planned deadline (Larson, 2017).
The Success of the Project
My project of building a hotel can be considered successful for various reasons. First, the thorough planning of the project was a great advantage. By breaking down the work into deliverables and work packages, the monitoring of the project became efficient. The bottom-up approach was used while creating a WBS, for instance, selecting the territory by criteria and preparing it for laying the foundation. As a result, time and resources were allocated correctly, and the budget was not stretched. Second, successful planning allowed to prevent deviations from the plan, and problems were addressed at the beginning. The dimension of problem-solving is crucial in project management, as unexpected situations could happen at any moment. Lastly, decent leadership and enhancing teamwork increased the teams productivity, as the goals and objectives were clearly emphasized.
