Introduction

Nanotechnology is defined as the science of coming up with processes of building materials at a sub atomic scale. In other articles, it has been defined as the science of organizing matter on the atomic and subatomic scale. When talking of nanotech which is the other term that describes nanotechnology, we are describing configurations of the size 100 nanometers or smaller. Nanotechnology involves coming up with materials of the said sizes. The use of nanotechnology has grown over time to be involved in everyday fields such as medicine, molecular physics, and basic industry among others. New materials are always being invented that are within the nano size. Nanotechnology has been touted as the new frontier in regards to particle physics and many scientists are currently involved in this field (Tegart 71).

Thesis Statement

Nanotechnology is now used in the coming u with new devicesand materials that are being used for different applications in the real world scenario. This doesnt mean that nanotechnology doesnt come with implications and it is these implications that are being used by others to discredit its use. Concerns raised involve the environmental hazards that could arise when nanotechnology is used on a wider scale and also the level of toxicity that could be absorbed by the person operat the devices (Tegart 70).

Major Point

A nanometer is a billionth of a meter. This size is so small that spa special set of tools and devices are needed in order to conjure other devices hat operate at this level. There are two advances that are used in nanotechnology and they are, the bottom up advance which in theory states that molecular components are used in the building of components on the molecular scale. The components self assemble by molecular recognition. The other advancement is the top down approach which states that entities of larger sizes are used in the coming up with objects in the nanoscale but in this theory there is no atomic level control (Gerd 45)

Several fields of nanotechnology such as nanophysics and nanomechanics have emerged that either follow the two principles have emerged. The assembly of machines on the nanoscale has proved to be difficult in practice and this is due to the difficulty in arranging atoms of the same size with both similarities in terms of stickiness. It is also difficult to control individual molecules.

Personal Reaction

Applications used in the field of nanotechnology are based on the physical properties of the material used within the sub atomic range. In the field of medicine, contrast agents and therapeutics for cancer treatment are just some of nanotechnological applications (Charles 55).

. Nanotechnology is also used in tissue engineering where the technology is used in the repair of body cells that have been damaged. In the field of chemistry, nanotechnology is used in the catalysis of chemicals and chemical filtration. In the field of energy the technology is used for the storage and conversion of energy, while this is in the research stage, studies have shown that nanotechnology will revolutionize our way of thing when it comes to efficiency. A good example of this is the recycling of batteries. The application of nanotechnology is so wide that it would require us to cover it as a different topic as it literally encompasses materials and processes that we used for our daily survival (Charles 53).
