Women have taken significant steps over the years concerning business owners and company executives. There are more women assuming leadership positions than before. However, this number is still a much smaller percentage than the men in these same positions. Since immemorial, these top and entrepreneurial spots were reserved for men in society. Over the years, women have managed to break through the barriers at work to some extent, attaining equal or even higher requirements than their male counterparts. This has seen them qualify for the top spots, which they still rarely get unless push comes to shove. The men at the top still feel like women do not deserve these spots even after repeatedly proving that they do. This is one of the significant challenges women face that should be addressed. What other factors make it difficult for women to break the glass ceiling?

For the discussion in gender studies, one of the famous stars, Lilly Singh, addresses hate comments she receives. In this video, Lily reacts to hateful words that people leave, like a comment about her speaking on racism. Here, the commenter asks her to talk about the racism against Jews and no other races if she genuinely is against racism (Singh, 2020).

Had it been a male vlogger, he probably would have been lauded for speaking against racism, to begin with. This shows the double standards women face working in the same space as men. People find anything small to put women down, regardless of their achievements. Dealing with this kind of backlash and challenges like sexual harassment prevent women from getting to the top. If women find themselves in situations whereby they are forced to engage in despicable activities just to get a promotion, the number of women at the top diminishes greatly. The giving of opportunities in work spaces should change, giving more of them to the deserving women. Why other changes should be made in the work spaces to support women?
