Development Needed in Londonderry, New Hampshire
Although the current population of Londonderry is 26,490, the town is still maintaining its rural appeal. Because of its easy access through the Interstate 93 highway, there has been an improvement in commercial property developments. The town uses its location to incentivize commercial developments (Ragsdale, 2021). However, studies show an acute housing problem in the town (Bookman, 2018). The governing bodies can eliminate property tax and emphasize the land use policy. Political obstacles to the land value tax system are limited public knowledge of the concept of taxation and substantial lobbying influence by the current system of property taxation. This implies that poor governance challenges and affects sustainable businesses in unsustainable cultures.
Land and policy
Implementing the land use policy is the most effective method for local authorities in the state can enhance sustainable growth of the town. Optimal land utility and productivity of land-related resources are directly related to effective planning achievable through the land use policy (Bai et al., 2020). Moreover through the policy, local authorities can align development with climate, biodiversity, and food objectives for sustainable growth. Enhanced growth of the town will enhance revenue collection. Appropriate management and planning of land utility in New Hampshire will catalyze sustainable development of the town.
Political challenges
First, current landowners are likely to oppose land use policy resulting in land hoarding which will hinder expected development. Moreover, consumers, administrators, and producers are prone to restructuring challenges of the policy. Land and business owners in the town affected by the policy may utilize lobbyists to sway legislators decisions. Implementing the changes requires logical evaluation of the fringe benefits of sustainability on growth hence revenue streams by political figures involved.
Review of the system
A reformed system is necessary for sustainable development because of the incompatibility of several aspects of development. As for Londonderry, commercial developments have increased the urgency for residential properties. The towns population is expected to create a sustainable culture because otherwise, the business loses its motivation for corporate social responsibility. If society does not understand the values of innovation and environmental friendliness, then a sustainable business that spends its resources on them loses the competition.
