THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALSO IN A FILE (FINAL HISTORY)
-choose a topic that has been covered in weeks 9-14 and conduct further research using the library databases (Proquest and JSTOR). Then, they will construct an annotated bibliography that they will submit here.
-Section One: Introduction Paragraph
Include a paragraph that introduces your topic and your main research question(s) that is organized around a 5C of historical thinking. The introduction will summarize the topic, introduce your question, and how you went about finding sources about your topic. You will then make an argument in one sentence that answers your research question based on your findings. Tip: You are encouraged to write your introduction paragraph last. -Section Two: Annotated Bibliography – Secondary Sources
Include bibliographic references and annotations for 5 academic secondary sources (books or academic articles) that relate to your topic. Secondary sources can only come from the library, JSTOR, Proquest, and the assigned class readings. Do not use book reviews as sources or sources from the internet. Primary sources should come from the primary source lists provided by the instructor in this week’s “Readings and Materials” section.
-Before each annotation, provide the bibliographic information for the source (as it would appear in the reference section of a paper). Use a consistent citation / reference format such as Chicago, MLA, APA.
-For each source, you will write two paragraphs (called annotations). The first paragraph will include a brief summary (5-7 sentences) that identifies what the author’s research question, arguement, and a few supporting points. In the second paragraph, (5-8 sentences), students will explain how the sources relates to thier own 5C of historical thinking research question and how the source connects with their topic.
-Section Three: Annotated bibliography – Primary Sources
Include bibliographic references and annotations for 2-3 primary sources that relate to your topic.
Before each annotation, provide the bibliographic information for the source (as it would appear in the reference section of a paper).
-For each source, students will write 1-2 paragraphs that summarize and analyze the primary source using questions located in the “How to analyze a primary source” handout.
-Section Four: Conclusion
Students will write a paragraph that synthesizes all the sources together. In other words, what did you learn from this research? How do the sources relate to each other? This is a great opportunity to incorporate the readings that we have read in class. This section should have in-text citations.
Criteria: Format your annotated bibliography to include:
Format: a singled-spaced header (name, date, class, professor); a centered title for your project; double-spaced body with 1-inch margins; Times New Roman font; turned in on time; Properly formats references and citations using a consistent citation / reference method such as Chicago, MLA, APA.
Grammar: Mostly written in third person. You can use first person when discussing how the source relates to your project; Only quote from primary sources. Do not use quotes from secondary sources; Proofread for typos and grammar mechanics.
Organization: Clearly organizes project around a 5C of Historical Thinking research question and includes an argument sentence and synthesizes all of the sources together in the conclusion.
Annotations: Critically summarizes, and annotates 5 academic secondary sources, and 1-2 primary sources, related to the topic, according to the instructions, in 2 paragraphs for each source. All paragraphs should have page numbers as in-text citations.
