Identify and incorporate at least two secondary peer-reviewed academic sources (books, peer-reviewed journal articles, which can be found in Web of Science – see list of journals in syllabus for examples)
Define and utilize at least three course materials in the analysis.
Identify two scientific articles that investigate your topic and determine how racial categories are used/assumptions made (See Braun’s et al. 2021 Methods pg. 4 – e.g., examine the methods section of the scientific paper and identify any description of the procedures used to assign individuals to a particular racial or ethnic group (e.g., use of self-reported race or ethnicity, any indication of ancestry, observer identification, or no description). Identify text given by scientific paper to explain racial differences (none-no explanation; 2) more than one cause or factor presented; 3)…., 4)…., 5)…. (see paper).
Interview at least two people who have experienced the racialized project under investigation to gain a better understanding of how people experience racialized medicine (patients, providers, scientists, activists, etc.). This could be people from the organization investigated or other people or both.
Identify a local or national organization that works towards racial justice in the topic that you are investigating and describe the work that they do.
