From our previous lessons we learned that Literary Theory can be a powerful resource that can help us to view and analyze the world around us. Each theory tries to make sense of the literary work or the world looking through different set of criteria. For example, we learned that Marxist view, analyzes the world or a literary writing through the socioeconomic inequality. They see a class struggle where burgeois, the upper class, tries to subdue the proletariat, working-class and asks questions to analyze the story. Structuralism, on the other hand, tries to analyze the world and literary work through analysis of the system, symbols, and signs that reveal more about that particular culture or a system. It is time to move forward and explore other theoretical approaches that try to analyze the world and each one carries its own principles and criteria for analysis. Read the Lectures on Literary Criticism to have an idea about each one, and then choose one to study from the pdf textbook provided and present that particular theory here. The assignment includes two parts. Each section should be at least one paragraph. Follow the instructions to complete Part 1 & 2.
Choose one school from Literary Criticism Theories and summarize the key concept of that approach in your own words. Write at least one paragraph summarizing the key concepts of that school including major philosophers who established it. Refer to the Literary Criticism pdf textbook to choose one chapter for your in-depth response here.You need to have at least 2 quotes with citation from the textbook to demonstrate your knowledge of the reading material.
Your post should demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of the literary theory you chose to study.
For the second part, think of a literature or art piece you would be able to analyze using this literary theory. For example, we used structuralism to analyze the Images. Think about one example where using one of these theories would help you understand and analyze that concept better and explain why.Bring specific examples. It can be a literary work, a movie, a media news, or advertisement etc… If you look at it closely, you will see that these theories help us look at the world though different perspectives.
