Marc Franz was an outstanding representative of German expressionism. He created Blue Horses in 1911 (The large blue, n.d.). The unique style of this work inspires artists throughout the world. The specific atmosphere of Blue Horses motivated me to create a painting Love of a Companion. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationships between these two works.

Blue Horses shows these animals moving closer to each other in a field of green grass. The purpose is of this piece of art is to demonstrate the metaphysical harmony in nature. The painter used blue color as a heaven representation. Rhythm is shown by fluid curves. Also, blue and yellow colors in the sky create a restful, pleasant, and quiet atmosphere. The work Love of a Companion has a similar purpose. This picture presents a dog that is petted by a human. The lack of colors highlights the main idea of this piece of art. The dog is necessary to comfort a human. Shading is used to illustrate some details like long and soft dogs ears.

Both pictures develop a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The curves create an effect of movement on both pictures. The humans fingers gently touch the dogs face, and they both feel pleasant vibes. The horses slowly move on the field and affectionately huddle together. The nature shown on the Large Blue Horse amplifies the effect of serenity. The persons hand and dogs head presents a close connection as well as the cluster of horses. Even though these are different pictures, they both serve the same purpose. The pictures express love and care, eliciting delight and joy in spectators. Animals are innocent creatures and free from peoples vices. They enjoy life because they can live in harmony with the world around them.
