“You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know when it will be too late”, – Ralph Waldo Emerson. This quote shows that the bombers that did this tragedy could have been stopped because they could have used empathy and kindness. Using that, they could’ve stopped and reflect on what decision they were going to commit to but they decided to use an act of terror. Killing 3 and injuring hundreds, they needed empathy. Due to this, my argument is to say that empathy in our current society is needed. We need to use this to prevent more tragedies like this so we can live better than we are now.

First, the Boston Bombing is based on a marathon race, the 116th in fact. The act caused 3 deaths and 264 injuries in the process. The bombs were made by pressure cookers and were 12 seconds apart, 50 yards apart as well. It was one of the worst attacks in a long while. They were on the run for a day or 2 until the morning of April 18, 2013, just 3 days after the bombing, they were caught in a pursuit with the police. One of the bombers were shot and taken to a hospital but died due to a gunshot wound(s). The other bomber, fled to an unknown location at the time.

The next day, police then scouted the neighborhood to find him hiding under a tarp in a boat. The standoff lasted for 2 hours until the suspect surrendered and was taken to a hospital to find out the 2 bombers were brothers. Tamerlan Tsarnaev (deceased) and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (alive). Dzhokhar was counted for 30 charges and sentenced to death on May 15, 2015. On June 24, 2015, he says to the court “Now I am sorry for the lives I’ve taken, for the suffering that I’ve caused you, for the damage that I’ve done. Irreparable damage” (‘Boston Marathon Terror Attack Fast Facts’ by CNN). He said this with remorse but did not look at the victims. This example shows that in our society, empathy will be used and everyone uses it and needs.

He was then ordered to pay 101 million dollars in restitution to victims and he wanted a new trail for no death penalty, but his request was denied on January 15, 2016. He and his brother were not the only ones involved in all of this though. Khairullozhon Matanov mixed information and interfering with the investigation of Dzhokhar on his computer. 3 19-year-olds were arrested for hiding materials from the bomb which was in Dzhokhar’s apartment. One of the suspects, Robel Phillipos was charged with lying to federal agents. Stephen Silvia was also involved who gave a gun to Tsarnaev (Which was used in the police pursuit) is sentenced to 6 years in jail and $800 in penalties.

You, maybe, asking, what does this have to do with empathy? Firstly, empathy was needed during these horrific attacks in Boston. They could have stopped themselves but they wanted to apathy everyone and everything which caused all of this. Proof of this is the quote in paragraph 3. Dzhokhar did feel guilty on what he did and is using empathy when stating this. However, this could’ve just to shorten the sentence for a retrial for which he was denied for in paragraph 4. This shows that he realized how much pain he and his brother committed during these acts. This shows that everyone in some way uses empathy either now, soon, later etc. It shows that we need it in today’s society, whether we use it during the situation, or after it, we are all going to use it in some way.

Finally, the bomber(s) used empathy. One of them did pass away before they could use empathy, but Dzhokhar did. Showing that most likely, they both regretted their decision. This is part of evidence that we have to show that even the worst people, use empathy sooner or later. It shows that we all need it or we all use it. This is showing that yes, we do need empathy in our society. Also, before the bombings, 2 years before them in fact, Tamerlan (deceased) was given info by the FBI that he supported radical Islam. They find that he has no link to terrorism but his mother was added to the list. They further investigated to find no evidence and dropped the case. This is showing that he was up to something with his family so they could’ve been working on this plan for a while. Tamerlan has a second outburst at a civil right sermon with Martin Luther King Jr. The first incident is when it was acceptable for Muslims to celebrate American holidays. Then the Boston Marathon came to trigger it all. They had explosives and nails with pressure cookers. Barrack Obama signs an emergency declaration to find the suspects. He was then transferred to a prison during his sentence of death to Florence, Colorado.

This finally shows that they were on to something and grew up with family using apathy instead of empathy. Showing that we need empathy to prevent things like this and to show that we all need it in our time. This showing that my fact was to show that we all need this to improve on the way we live. Showing that I am most factually correct.
