Abstract
In this report, I will discuss the weaknesses and challenges that I have faced in my life. And I will discuss how I will overcome or overcomes those weaknesses or how to face any challenge in my life. Staying calm in a difficult situation is very important. Knowing your weaknesses is very crucial but understanding how to overcome those weaknesses is more important. Everyone has their weaknesses but some people don’t want to overcome those weaknesses because they think they can live with those weaknesses, but this is totally wrong. For many project managers Emotional intelligence is a topic of concern and desire. So, why Emotional intelligence is a crucial topic today? This gives us a conclusion about the relationship, how we manage them, or mismanage them, in our everyday work life.
Introduction
Emotional intelligence has its own impact on project managers and project management. Recent studies have shown the remarkable differences in individuals’ performance and in project managers’ career success who understands and implement the key Emotional intelligence principle in their work life. “Studies at several large companies, including major oil companies, have shown that the people who were most successful in their companies had 15 traits in common. Of those traits, 73% were related to EI, and 27% of the traits were related to IQ. Emotional intelligence matters 2 ½ times much as IQ (Goleman, 1988, p. 31). Therefore, EI is not an issue—it is the issue supporting success in the workplace and in our personal lives as well.”
Emotional intelligence helps you understand your own emotions and develop self-awareness of how to control your emotions. How we manage our emotions is very important and key to successful relationships in the profession and in personally. Hard work will not always give you a better outcome for any project we do. Career and relationship provocations are related to everyone’s emotions, the better the use of emotional intelligence, the better project is managed, and as a result, you become a better leader. It has been surveyed that project managers with high EI understanding handle big projects more successfully as compared to project managers with low EI understanding. For example, “there was a man and a woman that scored 800 on their SAT exams—very bright people. Twenty-five years later the man was head of a consulting company of one—himself. The woman was the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. The difference between the two was she that understood EI.”
Main Body
First I will discuss my personal weaknesses and will share my experiences about my weaknesses and how to overcome those weaknesses. Then I will discuss the weaknesses from the perspective to project management.
My weaknesses
- Impatient- In the past I was very impatient. I do things very quickly without even thinking. In other words, I was impulsive. I took the decisions without thinking anything. But since I came to Canada, my decision power become stronger as compared to the past. Canada taught me many things but taking decisions in the right manner and at right time is the most important thing I could have. Although from 12th grade, I took all decisions of my life. Canada made me independent and taught me many lessons. I took many good and bad decisions after I came here. Now, I am very patient and take my decisions very precisely and carefully.
- Aggressive- I am a very vigorous kind of person. Although I do not get aggressive instantly, yes if someone pushes my limit then I got hostile sometimes. But in that case, I do not give harm that person. Instead of that I just stop talking to them. But in the work environment, if someone does something like with me, I will try to solve things between us because it will be good for the team and good for the project too.
- Blunt- I am a very straightforward kind of person. I do not mix up things. I told them as they are, not in a diplomatic way. Some people like this attitude and some do not. But I take this as my weakness because I think, I have to mold things before talking to someone. This is how things work, people love to hear their praise, so sometimes it is good to give them what they want.
Weaknesses perspective to work place
- Unorganized- This was my past weakness. When I was in college back in-home country India doing my graduation, I was given a project in term 7. My group was of 8 members and I was the leader of the group. After all the research and gathering information, we decided to build a solenoid engine. Because this was our first project and I was not sure how things work. So, before I was very casual, and didn’t do anything like how to build the engine and gather the material for it. But by the time I come to know that leadership is very important. I have to take the initiative and divide the duties among the team members. Then I started working on the project and divided the work among the team members. I searched on the internet about the material and the parts and talked to our instructors to help us out. In the end, the project was successful, there were some issues that came up while doing it but as a team, we overcome all the conflicts.
- Poor time management- As I discuss our project. I was also poor at managing time during the project. The deadline was 4 months, we have to complete the project in 4 months. But I was very casual about the project my team haven’t done anything for the first month. That was very bad for us. In the end, we have to ask for an extension. We got the extension for 2 weeks, but what I am trying to discuss here is poor time management. We didn’t manage our time so well.
How to overcome my Weaknesses
All the weaknesses I discussed were mostly from my past experiences. Some I tried to overcome and some I ignore. But the most important thing was I learned, I adapt and I overcome. I learned from the people who have more experience than me, I learned by observing people. Like, impersonal my weakness was or we can say my fear, was heights. Sometimes I was afraid of heights. To overcome this weakness, I did bungee jumping. What here I won’t say that I didn’t let my weakness overcome me, I overcome my weakness. So, it is very important for everyone to know their weaknesses and overcome them.
Conclusion
You can change by controlling your musings, understanding your very own feelings and others, building up an uplifting disposition, and giving your conduct a chance to impact the air in your work put. When you investigate your considerations, settle on a choice to acknowledge or dismiss each idea. Applying passionate knowledge can give you an edge for your future achievement.
