With a great enthusiasm in the field of Mechanical Engineering and as a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student, I have learned the basic principles of mechanical engineering that apply to most machines, processes, and tools which naturally widens my scope and curiosity of learning new concepts. The persistent technological advances in the field of engineering have opened up growth opportunities in newer dimensions. To scintillate in the revolutionary workplace of tomorrow, one has to have the perfect combination of practical and theoretical knowledge I believe that Nanyang Technological University will provide me with the best possible platform for the attainment of my future goals.

I draw my inspiration for this field from my brother who owns a CNC machining company. He was the one who introduced me to machines like Lathe Machine, Gear Cutting Machine, Hydraulic Cutting Machine, and cutting tools at a very impressionable age. This triggered in me a desire to know more about what happens inside these machines and the reason behind their accuracy and precision working. Also, my frequent visits to the labor and industries enabled me to retain as well as enhance my interest in the field which influenced me to pursue my undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering.

Ever since the beginning of my undergraduate study, manufacturing technology has fascinated me with a wide variety of applications. My undergraduate program has given me wide exposure to subjects like Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Strength of Materials, Finite Element Analysis, Manufacturing Technology, etc. My under graduation has been a pleasant rewarding experience as I got many chances to visit industries to understand the application of mechanics and its related theories. Apart from the theoretical syllabus as per the current industrial demand, I underwent value-added and career-enhancing certifications like AutoCAD and Solid Works which helped me to learn various design aspects.

Owing to my interest in the concepts of Manufacturing Technology and Fluid Mechanics, I submitted a project in the third year with a working prototype of vortex tubes, which works on the principle of vortex flow which was well received and appreciated by department professors and H.O.D as well. The concept for this project is to reduce the temperature of the inlet compressed air. The working model was designed and built with proper engineering drawings and each part was manufactured in a CNC machine. Although the final goal of replacing the conventional cutting fluid with the help of vortex tubes was not achieved, a fully functional vortex tube was built. The temperature difference was displayed live by integrating the temperature sensor with an open-sourcing electronic prototyping platform – Arduino board.

I took numerous amounts of seminars in my class and had to ensure that they were well explored and articulated with lucid and crisp content in an easily comprehensible language which improved my confidence level. Excluding the theory papers, my undergraduate program had many laboratory programs that acted as a catalyst for my desire to comprehend to the maximum understanding of the coursework. I have an immense interest and avid curiosity in correlating these subjects with industrial practices, and this has motivated me to pursue a Master’s degree. During my second year of coursework, I got the opportunity for Implant training at Ford India Private Limited, where I got to know about the end-to-end process of manufacturing a Car from Procuring raw materials to Pre Delivering Inspection.

I possess an immense quest for knowledge which enabled me to explore more in the field of bus bodybuilding and coachbuilders. I did my next Implant training at Veera Vahana Udyog Private Limited where my understanding of structural bodybuilding was redefined. During the training tenure, I got to know more about Fiber Reinforced Plastics and Tungsten Inert Gas welding in detail. I gained immense exposure in the training by not only applying the principles that I had learned during my undergraduate study but also becoming familiar with different types of machinery used in the industry.

My final year project was based on Vacuum Forming with recycled plastic sheets where we submitted the working prototype of a vacuum forming machine that works on the principle of thermoforming. The concept of this project is to form the required mold from recycled input plastic sheets. The major challenge was to control the heating coil temperature as the sheet used was made up of a mixture of plastics. However, the final mold was found to be successful. The heating coil and the vacuum pump consume energy alternatively and as it is a recycled plastic sheet the machine worked effectively with lesser power consumption.

Apart from the final year project, I was on the team, consisting of twenty-five members, who designed and constructed a 305CC All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). We carried out the manufacturing process and achieved the final product which participated in two events; one is the BAJA SAEINDIA 2017, an ATV racing competition conducted by Mahindra and SAE India and the other is ATVC 2018 conducted by INFI LEAGUE Motorsports and Rajasthan Technical University. Our team was led by five individuals each taking care of one aggregate department among which I led the brake department. I was the team manager for the whole event who took care of all financial and other major decisions about the team which provided me the opportunity to improve my managerial skills.

After completing my undergraduate program, I joined Daimler India Commercial Vehicle as an Executive in After-Sales Department where my major responsibilities included vehicle service order activation, tracking and managing required field support and handling throughout pan India. Working together with a vast team initially was a challenging task but it helped in develop my technical expertise and leadership skills. After attaining an experience of more than one and a half years, I felt the need for higher education which I believe is prestigious and will provide me with the best possible platform that would equip me with comprehensive and specialized skills.

Immediately after joining the program, I aim to work towards my graduate program and concentrate on gaining in-depth knowledge of the latest technologies in the field of manufacturing systems. Thereafter, I would like to explore different feasible work opportunities in the core field. My ultimate goal, in the long run, would be to return to my native country India to start an organization that focuses on the development of new technologies that would optimize the benefits for the people who struggle to fulfill their necessities.

I am very confident about my candidature for this Graduate program and it is my strong belief that Singapore’s education system is one of the best to offer quality education system in the world. If I could get an opportunity to be a part of an intellectually stimulating environment, I am sure that my skills will be put to optimal use which will help to achieve my future goals.
