My career goal is to be a registered nurse. Ever since I was little I always wanted to be a nurse, I like helping people get better. The College I want to go to is Georgia Southern University. The other jobs I was looking into were Veterinarian, police, and teacher but I did extra research on all of them and I narrow it down and saw that I wanted to be a Registered Nurse. The other Colleges I was looking at were Georgia College & State University, Albany State University, and Mercer University. Then I was choosing between Georgia College and Georgia State and I saw Georgia State was a better school for a great price. In my research report, I will be explaining everything you will need to know about being a nurse and I will be talking about my College. This project is important to me because I really want to be an RN, I need to do my research on it so I can know what I’m getting into.
My future plan is to get a job early and save all my money up so I can get an apartment by the time I go to college and just take my classes online or get an apartment close to Georgia Southern and walk. In my research report, I will be answering these questions about my career and college. What does one need to know and be able to do for this career? What type of postsecondary education is needed? Are there any additional certifications needed for this career? What is the expected salary for this career? What daily/hourly hours would one work? What type of vacation can one expect? What type of work does one do in this career? Are there opportunities for advancement in this career? What type of college is it? What is enrollment? Is it urban or rural? What are the admission requirements? What are the tuition costs? What type of major might you pursue at this college? What is a description of this major? What skills are necessary to be successful in this major? What high school courses are needed for this major? What questions would you ask a college admissions counselor? What other majors are related to this major?
Registered nurses help physicians provide treatment for patients suffering from various medical conditions. It will only take 2-4 years of college to become an RN. When you become a registered nurse, your responsibilities will involve caring for patients. RNs work eight to ten hours a day. Nurses walk about four miles a day. RN works in clinics, schools, homes, hospitals, and more. Registered nurses’ schedule is waking up early, checking in, doing morning rounds, lunch, doing afternoon rounds then checking out. A registered nurse record patient symptoms, help doctors during exams and surgeries, teach patients about self-care and healthy habits, lab work and etc. The initial payment is $16.50-26.00 per hour. Then after 5-9 years of working, it’s $30.35 per hour. The expected salary is $68,450. Jobs that also pay this amount are Delivery drivers, Collections representatives, and Teachers. Some cons about being an Rn are dealing with body fluids, 12-hour days, being underappreciated, and stress.
The 2010 job market was sixteen percent. The current(2019) job market is fifteen percent. My future prediction for the 2023 job market is that it’s going to stay the same. The personality you have to have to be a registered nurse is a person with compassion, respect, calm under pressure, detail-oriented, communication, and knowledgeable. The character traits are being empathetic, writing everything down, being organized, being adaptable, etc. The main people that are nurses are people who like to help people out and people that have had bad experiences when they were younger.
RN usually requires an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, but some hospitals have teaching programs and they’ll take diplomas. RNs have two to three weeks of paid vacation per year, also they have an average of 40 hours of paid sick time.
Georgia Southern University is a public university. It’s located in Statesboro Georgia. In 2014 the total enrollment was 20,517. The tuition is 6,273 dollars. It’s rural and the campus size is 900 acres. You would at least have to make 1010 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT. If your GPA is at or below 3.34, you’ll need a higher SAT or ACT score. I will pursue a major in nursing.
Some successful skills are Professionalism, Critical Thinking, Time Management, and Communication. The high school courses I need are English, algebra, geometry, biology, and chemistry. Other courses in physics, psychology, speech, foreign language, and anatomy. Studying for nursing is taking notes in class, making time to study every day, knowing your learning style, taking scheduled breaks, making a small study group, being flexible, get plenty of sleep.
Some questions I would ask my College Counselor What are my chances of getting in? Should I take the ACT or SAT? What should I expect in a college interview? Will apply early gives me a leg up? Majors just like nursing are Public health, Health sciences and services, Allied health professions, Bioethics, Dental support services and etc.
This research report has really been helpful, I have found out about a lot of stuff. This tells me I can’t give up on my dream, if I want to become an RN then I’ll have to keep pushing and keep my head up. My mama will be proud to hear that I have graduated from high school and she will be proud to hear by 2026 or 2027 that I have become a Registered Nurse because that was her goal in life. I’ll have to work on things like stopping procrastinating and making time to study. I can’t take breaks when I’m working because I’ll procrastinate and end up going to sleep and don’t submit my work on time. I just can’t wait until I become an RN, I can have a big house and a good job and help take care of my family. Another good thing about being a nurse is when your kids are sick or someone in your family is sick you can try to diagnose them or you know what can help them get better. An inspiring quote I look at every day is “Never let your head hang down. Never give up and sit down and grieve. Find another way. And don’t pray when it rains if you don’t pray when the sun shines.”
