I do believe outsiders are simply those who are misunderstood or misjudged. For example, Steve Jobs was an odd man. He even agreed that he was an outsider, and he still was a very successful man. (How Steve Jobs’ differences ended up changing the world for all of us). That’s just one example showing that those who may be successful today, or that you can relate to today were not always popular. It seems that outsiders happen to be misjudged and misunderstood because of their interests. According to the world norms, they are “different” from others forcing them to become outsiders.

In “The Metamorphosis”, the main character, Gregor is transformed into a roach. Gregor was shunned by his own family because he couldn’t accept how he was different-looking. Gregor knew himself who is was, but others didn’t. He knew that he didn’t like his job, he was providing for his family but got nothing from it. It seemed as if his family didn’t appreciate him, they used him for his money and didn’t do much for him. But once he was turned into a roach everything changed. ’’We must get rid of it” (KAFKA 9) They need him to survive but still treat him badly even though he looks different.

Throughout school, since the beginning of time, people who are seen as ”weird” or ”strange” just because they did things differently, looked different, and hung around a different group of kids were outcasts. But some of the most successful people in the world, or better yet some of your favorite celebrities were once outsiders. For instance, in “Revenge of the Geeks” Robbins said, “Taylor Swift’s classmates left the lunch table as soon as she sat down because they disdained her taste of country music. Last year, the Grammy winner was the nation’s top-selling recording artist.” (Robbins, 225) That being said, just because she didn’t like the same music as her friends back in high school they left her out, and now she is one of the biggest names in the music industry.

On the contrary, outsiders are not simply those who are misunderstood or misjudged. There are plenty of people in the world who are socially awkward or still left out in adult society all because they didn’t fit in during their adolescent years. And some of those people nowadays are just fine with that. Being an outsider sometimes makes it to where you can find another outsider and both of you are outsiders together. That’s how cliques or friend groups are formed. So sometimes being an “outsider” is a good thing.

To conclude, outsiders are simply misjudged and misunderstood. With evidence from “ The Metamorphosis”, “Revenge of the Geeks” and other online sources, it is considered that those who are outsiders are just misjudged and misunderstood. There is still evidence against it but the deeper you think about it, you realize it all goes back to it being a misunderstanding.
