There are numerous reasons that lead to one opting to major in a specific career field. Some of the objectives may be inclined to salary paid for jobs associated with the field, desire to pursue one’s talent while others may be associated with one’s need to help the society or the country. Of all these needs, the desire to major in fire protection engineering was stirred up by the numerous problems that affect my society and country in the event of a fire outbreak. In this brief essay, I intend to highlight some of the reasons that led to my desire in majoring in this field.
For years, our fire fighting departments have been overwhelmed by fire outbreaks which eventually lead to fatalities. There have been numerous incidences where people, as well as firefighters, have died trying to put off infernos razing down hotels or forests. Some of the reasons I have identified to cause these fatalities are lack of essential skills by the society while fire fighting departments have been found not to have the necessary fire fighting facilities. In this respect, I am majoring in fire protection engineering so that I can equip myself with the necessary fire fighting skills. It is my desire to educate the community on how to respond to fire outbreaks. This will help in cutting down on the number of fatalities resulting from fire outbreaks.
Wildfire has been a great problem not only to our country but also to the world. This has not only hampered our endeavors to conserve the environment but has also adversely affected the wildlife. Over the past, I have been very inquisitive about some of the factors that lead to a wildfire. Among the factors I have identified, most of them are associated with a lack of experience and skills in our community. Encroachment by the community into lands that were once conserved for forest and wildlife has led to the outbreak of wildfires. As people continue clearing and burning bushes around them, they at times leave the fire on leading to it extending into the forests. Majoring in fire engineering will give me an opportunity to interact and educate the public about the importance of ensuring that they put off a fire after burning bushes around their houses. I will also have an opportunity to advocate for forest and wildlife conservation.
To overcome fatalities resulting from fire outbreaks in our nation, we need to have the state of the art equipment as well as equip our fire fighting staff with the necessary fire fighting skills. This does not imply that our current staff does not have the necessary skills. There is still the need to provide them with the necessary skills due to the varied natures of fire outbreaks. Working as a fire protection engineer will help me develop quality fire fighting equipment and also work closely with other fire fighting staff to ensure that they have all the required skills to deal with any kind of fire outbreak. This will help me realize my dream of cutting down on the number of fatalities that arise due to fire rash.
It is my belief that fatalities resulting from fire outbursts can be greatly controlled if not eliminated. This can only be through educating all the stakeholders on how to respond in case of a fire outbreak. Majoring in fire protection engineering will give me a great opportunity to pursue this dream.
