Introduction

Flash drivers are information technological devices that help in transferring and storing information since it’s a kind of non-volatile hardware that is re-writable and hence making it easy for an individual to move data back and forth more quickly. These drives are smaller than floppy discs and have higher capacities making them easy to carry or store large volumes of data. Since flash drivers do not have moving parts hence they are in a position to stay for a long period. Importantly, some of these flash drivers usually utilize the Universal Serial Bus (USB) storage standards that operate in support of operating systems including Windows and Mac OS X (Musburger & Gorham 45). These drivers are very reliable as nothing mechanical happens in computers as what is stored or transferred to these drives can be read by computers more easily. In this case, these drives are very robust in matters relating to mechanical operations. It is because of their simplicity in usage and reliability as far as storing and transferring information is concerned that they are preferred in storing information on students’ population in a school. It becomes very easy to alter or update information stored in flash drivers as the operation of a computer is the sole mechanical operation that is used.

Reliability of flash drivers

Flash drivers have the capacity of storing larger volumes of data as compared to CDs and they can rely on more than floppy discs. Their reliability can be seen when storing data since these data cannot be lost since the data is only readable within a computer. The size of the flash drivers is very small making it easy to be carried along and hence one can access the information about the students’ population even when using another computer outside the school compound. Notably, some flash drivers have a capacity of up to 7 GB making it easy for one to transfer or save videos, pictures, and presentations (Venkateswaran 541).

Advantages of flash drivers

Some advantages are associated with the use of flash drivers in information transfer and storage. In this case, the aspect of cost is very essential when deciding on the usage of these drivers. This is because they are very cheap where 4GB or even smaller drivers can be obtained at only $10 to $20 which is a very little amount of money compared to the amount of information that is stored and transferred through them (Shelly & Vermaat 212). It is very easy to use flash drivers an aspect that has made them be the most preferred choice for additional memories. In this case, they will be able to be used by any member of the staff more easily. Additionally, these flash drivers are very strong and hence durable and hence the information stored may not be lost easily.

Types of flash drivers

There are different types of flash drives which include; memory meter flash drive, credit card flash drive, and lighter flash drive among others. In this case, all these drivers are very useful in data storage and transfer but some are more efficient and easier to use than others.

Types of flash drivers Definitions
memory meter flash drive This is a flash drive that offers direct measure on the drive itself
credit card flash drive It is a rectangle-shaped flash drive that turns over to open to real the USB port
lighter flash drive It is a flash drive that is build-in a lighter where the lighter is designed in a way that it flips open. There is a switch on the side that slides the USB connection from the bottom on the lighter

It would be recommendable to use the memory meter flash drive since they are of different sizes and they easily indicate the left space on the drive itself. This is not found in the other mentioned drives and hence when storing information it would be easy to know the size of free space left (Morley & Parker 125).

Conclusion

In winding up, it would be very easy to store and transfer students’ information in flash drivers rather than CDs and floppy discs. This is because these drivers are very efficient and easier to use than floppy discs and CDS.
