Project planning
Conception
Mass communication has taken another dimension nowadays with the advancement of technology. The era of digitalization has brought fourth developments in media production, unlike the past when the recording for both audio and videos was not easy. The media used to store the recordings was also poor. For instance, audios and videos recordings were present in cassette tapes prone to destruction.
However, digitalization has led to better audio production in which the quality of the audio is very good (Huber 1995). There have been sound echo proofs in audio recording studios. Audio recording is an economical way to capture the events for future reference at a fair price. This audio recording project was set to reveal how students have different perceptions of the courses offered in colleges.
Materials and sources used in this project
An audio recorder with a powerful microphone was vital in capturing clearer sounds from voices made by the interviewees. A computer was used in the editing of the audio to cut some parts and others joined to make a complete discussion.
Also, the computer had programs that put some effects on the audio as well as converting the completed audio from window media file to mp3 format. The master audio file was encoded at 192 kbps with a two and half minutes playback. This was a format playable in most audio players. The stock materials used in the audio resources emanated from the written script to convey the message.
Introduction
Most people have been cited to have problems in addressing the public. There are various reasons why this happens. This sound byte involved an interview with the author of an inspirational book.
PACKAGE: overcoming public speaking fears and anxiety
Gilbert: hi, this is Dr. Proactive Randy Gilbert and I invite you to take a moment and listen to this powerful interview segment so that you can be more proactive and successful. In-studio we have the confident speakers and Larina right there can I start with you this time if I could?
Larina: sure…
Gilbert: what are some of the common needs and misconceptions of public speaking anxiety?
Harrison: Well, several things could lead to this, it depends on the person, and I think and think their image could do it. People are more anxious than they need to be. People feel they are unprepared that they do not know enough about the topic given in the speech. People want to show much information and the audience and they want to give more just to show they know what they are talking about and they are afraid that they are not getting all the clauses and it is really. The reason for this is the lack of a clear objective and desire to provide too much information. So people are overwhelmed by the audience to give much detail perhaps for wrong reasons features.
And then not knowing what the audience want to know and of course we’re going to speak into a situation and you do not know the audience at all. To connect with the audience you have to know them, their background, you have to know why they are there, you have to know who makes up the audience and who the key decision-makers they are, and what do they hope to get out of it. So when you don’t go into an audience to speak to each one of them, it is like meeting someone a stranger, and you are trying to have an intimate conversation when you don’t even know whom you are speaking to.
Gilbert: (nod head and agrees)
Harrison: so those are two keys …that make someone nervous
Gilbert: thank you very much and that marks the end of the interview although means of overcoming fear are not clear. Just type in these digits and join me in my studio.
Audio production and postproduction audio editing
Based on the above directions and guidelines, the audio recording happened as earlier planned and captured using an audio recorder fixed with a microphone to amplify the sounds and voices during the interview (Ferguson 2007). The recorded files were transferred to a computer as raw audios to facilitate the production of the “master” project file. However, the raw audio file remained unchanged for future use in case there were modifications to make it easy and cheap without going back to the recording. The action was set to happen near the hall of residence to cut down the costs of pre and post-production of the audio resource.
The size of the “master” project audio produced played for two minutes and seven seconds. This was a much reduction from the lengthy raw audios. The audio file was later converted into a 192 kbps mp3 format playable in mp3 and audio players with ease (Davis & Jones 1990). Using the virtual Dj program, the audio was added some sound effects and the introductory and concluding theme song. The renaming of produced audio marked the completion of the project. This got the title “Master Submission” and saved it in an mp3 format.
Project plan and budget allocations
The interview recording was set to happen on a Saturday afternoon when the characters were available. Also, there was earlier testing of the audio recorders, and microphones for their functionality. Most of the materials were hired, which cost the project about $76 and $10 for transport and refreshments. The action was not far from the residential house hence fewer expenses during the project.
