Human beings are the smartest species on Earth; every human being displays certain emotions, some may be extremely emotional and may seek emotional support from others while others may not require emotional support as much as the other emotional people may require. This paper will analyze different emotions and comprehensive category analysis of emotions will be provided in this paper.

Certain emotions are recognized universally for instance if a person is happy they smile or laugh to express their emotions. On the contrary some emotions are very hard to figure out for instance if a person is jealous, the emotions expressed by that person will be difficult to figure out. Happy emotions are very often used to deceive people, classic examples of the same are celebrities and politicians, most of them smile no regardless of their original emotions to gain popularity. “Detecting genuine happy expressions may be as valuable as producing good simulations. Some of the differences in genuine versus false smiles are shown in the action of zygomatic major in Expression section, and more illustrations are available by clicking the happy thumbnail on the right.” (Happy, 2009). Most of the time when tears flow down from a person’s eyes, it is perceived as a sad situation and people associate sad emotions with tears. This is debated by many psychologists as tears may also be associated with extreme joy and happiness. Psychologists believe that tears never express any particular emotion; they may express sadness or happiness.

Anger is another emotion expressed worldwide. Some people are short-tempered and get angry within no time and without any proper reason. Anger portrays interpersonal aggression; aggression is closely associated with anger. Expression of anger can put a person in serious trouble. Most of the conflicts are the result of the expression of anger. Psychologists believe that people who express anger very often are less likely to prosper and grow in their lives when compared to those who express it less often. “Although frequently associated with violence and destruction, anger is probably the most socially constructive emotion as it often underlies the efforts of individuals to shape societies into better, more just environments, and to resist the imposition of injustice and tyranny.” (Anger, 2009).

Startle is another human emotion that has caught the eye of many psychologists in the recent past. Many psychologists associate this emotion resulting from a stimulus and this is considered very different when compared to other human emotions. Startle is a reflex emotion that is a little similar to surprise but many psychologists believe that surprise and reflex are completely different human emotions on the contrary many psychologists, believe that both these human emotions are very similar.

To conclude it is very fair to say that there are many human emotions that are quite difficult to understand and interpret. Different psychologists will have different viewpoints about the different emotions of human beings. It is imperative to have a good understanding of human emotions in order to be successful in life. One must be able to interpret the emotions of other human beings in order to establish good understanding with other people and understanding is a pivotal factor that determines how successful a person will be in his life.

Category Analysis of Emotions

Happiness is one emotion that provides an individual with a lot of motivation. Once a person is happy, he starts looking for more such ways that can keep him happy in the future and this is how he gets motivated in order to keep himself happy. Emotional words often describe the emotions of an individual. For instance, if a person is ecstatic, he will speak words that will please the other people and the same also show the happiness of that individual. On the contrary, if a person is in a somber mood, he will speak words that will agitate the other people and the same will cause a lot of trouble in the future for that person. “Using dimensional analysis, psychologists have used valence and intensity as the two basic categories for classifying emotion words. Valence and intensity are independent dimensions, which means that the values on one dimension are in no way related to the values on the other.” (Dimensional Analysis of Emotional Words, 14 March 2009). Physiological response is another way of researching the emotions. The method stresses the different expressions when people experience different emotions, for instance, emotions and expressions expressed when a person is happy will be completely different when a person is sad or angry. To conclude, it is very fair to say that a good understanding of emotions is imperative to know other people better.
