Introduction
Behavioural problems in educational context during childhood and early adolescence can be caused academic failure and early school drop out. Student’s behavioural and emotional changes are common concern of parents, educational researchers and teachers. Behavioural problems, including violence, ethnic clashes, and aggressiveness are harmful for student’s learning process. The ultimate aim of the current education system is to form and develop the qualities of self regulation and self- assurance. To develop positive behavioural pattern is one of the major aim of current education system. Students of an institution are coming from various social, religious, economic and psychological backgrounds. All the above factors play vital role in student’s education procedure. An efficient teacher has the responsibility to work the duty of a social engineer. Mortifying, supportive and stressful with teachers, students, peers, and family members influence a student’s class room performance. Through the schools and other educational institutions it makes the behavioural changes which based on social, economic and emotional aspects. Behavioural problems especially secondary level often creates interference to the classroom procedure. Differences in opinion between teachers and students, classroom punishments and family problems make behavioural problems to the student. The main features of a behavioural problem among students especially adolescents are reacting aggressively towards others, to show frightening behaviour, being physically obnoxious to other students, ignore feelings and emotions and express unsympathetic behaviour to others. The harmful thing is these behavioural problems have been related with other problems, the following statement from the journal article Behavioural problems and tobacco use among adolescents in Central America and the Dominican Republic explains the real picture of the above mentioned issue. It says: “Behavioural problems have been associated with numerous other difficulties, including family and school troubles, social anxiety, and sleep and weight disturbances.” (Vittetoe, 2004).
The associated problems are more harmful for a student’s future learning process. There are various reasons including class room environment and family atmosphere. Lack of motivation is an important reason for behavioural problems among students. Difference in opinion between students and teachers constitute behavioural problems. An effective teacher should create a good rapport in his classroom at first. Students especially adolescents needs consideration therefore a good teacher gives enough intrinsic motivation. By the words of Jere E. Brophy motivatio0n is “Student motivation is rooted in student’s subjective experiences, especially those connected to their willingness to engage in lessons and learning activities and their reasons for doing so.” (Brophy, 2004). Through this statement Isolation is also another reason for student’s behavioural changes. Isolation fro either class room atmosphere or family atmosphere affect student’s learning process.

Effective evaluation process, class room punishments and other psychological distress are contributing isolation. Modern education procedure is based on effective learning theories. The healthy relationship between stimuli and appropriate responses are very important factors in classroom. Week and unhealthy responses are the symbol of student’s behavioural changes. A large number of students express behavioural changes through different ways. Externalizing behavioural changes among students can be seen the following ways. This forced the students to act aggressively to his or her friends and sometime to his teachers. This kind of behavioural changes affects the learning process harmfully. Even single attitudinal changes in the side of teacher may be affect student’s behavioural pattern. One c an easily finds that if a students enjoy a close and healthy relationship with his or her teacher is more engaged in his or her class room procedures.
Student’s behavioural changes is determined by environmental both class room and family, personal, and behavioural elements. The class room management by the teacher is also a reason for student’s behavioural changes in educational context. Normally majority of the teachers only wait maximum two or three seconds for a response before calling another student, a serious matter is that all students have the ability and they expect good success. When he will have an opposite experience he may tend to show some behavioural changes. If the student fails to catch teachers attention or proper reinforcement he will show various behavioural changes like unwillingness to listen the classroom, aggressiveness to others and poor class room performance. School going period is the peek time in the behavioural development of a person. If they get proper consideration from the parents, teachers and the society these behavioural changes will become as healthier to the person and to the society. Otherwise these changes will negatively affect to him and to the society. At this stage a students learn about the life and his surroundings. In this stage various factors effect in his behaviour. Some of them are family condition, teachers influence, friends and peer groups etc. Some c changes are good but some others may be bad for his physical and mental health. The following section mentioned about major types of behavioural change usually occurred in school going children. Aggression, Depression, Drug and tobacco addiction, Opposing character, Irritability etc are some of the major behavioural changes in school going children.
In the adolescent age students commonly shows an aggressive and violence nature. Culture and environment of the school is a major reason for this aggressive nature. Bullying and negative approaches from the teachers are causes aggressive nature in the students. According to Janet Reis “The school had a relatively modest but significant effect on student aggression.” (Aggression and violence in school: How school environment impacts student aggression, 2007). Some students become depressed in their adolescent age. But in their childhood they are also same like the other children. Alcohol usage and tobacco addiction will deviate the energetic children to depressed nature. Depressed students may be week in their physical health also. Teaching strategies and class atmosphere are also lead to depression. These students simply sit into the class but they did not listen to the teacher. It badly effects their academic growth and mental growth.
Drug, alcohol and Tobacco addiction are also considered as various types of behavioural change in the school students. Peer groups play an important role in leading once to the usage of alcohol, drug and tobacco usage. Some students show a tendency to oppose anything especially teachers and parents. They never cooperate with their parents and teachers. Same like the aggressive students these opposing students also shows and attacking character. They may become harmful to the family and to the society.
Parents are trained traditionally in managing the behavioural problems of their children. They are aware of the different methods to be adopted for finding solutions for the behavioural problems found in children in childhood and adolescence. Though they are capable of guiding and controlling their children, they are not fully aware of behaviour management techniques based on a solution –focused group process. As teachers are one among the most important factors influencing the students, they have to adopt some strict behaviour management techniques for finding solutions to the various behavioural problems of the students. A teacher will have to face these misbehaviour, may be because of his lack of experience or the lack of preparation. It is only one side of the coin and on the other side there remains student with worst behaviour to trap the teacher.
Various researches have been pointed to the fact that the confidence of the teachers is the supreme factor providing him the good control over his students. Teacher’s interaction with the difficult students will lift the veil of misbehaviour within and outside the class. Along with confidence, the other quality that the teacher should possess is self efficacy, which will gave him the capacity tot face each and every situation boldly. Generally is has been viewed that self efficacy has two parts, one is the expectations and the other one is the outcome. when remarking about the teacher efficacy, Chong Poh Wan has viewed that. “Teacher efficacy has been identified as a variable contributing to the individual differences in teaching effectiveness.” (Wan). From the above statement it is clear that teacher efficacy is different in different persons and it causes for the same individual difference in finding a solution for the behavioural problems of the students. The efficacy of the teacher evaluated with his/her ability to perform a behaviour, task or skill. What is generally seen is that the behaviour will result in a particular outcome.
A teacher can provide positive consequences to increase desirable behaviours in his students. To eliminate or to control the misbehaviour of his students, a teacher should be positive to social as well as academic accomplishments. He should be capable of leading them to positive thinking. To avoid or to find solutions for the problems regarding the misbehaviour of students, the teacher provide them with positive attention, praise, privileges, access to desirable activities, prizes etc. There should be enough care in the treatment of the children showing problem behaviour and somewhat a fewer concentration on the children with fewer problems. All the children should be aware of the real benefit of the work they have done, either academically or socially. If they are able to understand the real value of the studies and the programs they are engaged in, they would not anymore engage in other activities of misbehaviour, especially against their teachers. The other thing that teacher should care is that whether youngsters or adults are positively supporting the children for following the misbehaviour. A teacher should try to rearrange the environment as the student gets enough attention and privileges for attaining positive social and academic behaviour. Different positive consequents like the support of the decision makers praise and acknowledge of school administrators and other teachers, and the effective use of various principles to lessen the child and adolescent behavioural problems. Various programs to use the consequences effectively will help the adults about developing the pro-social ways.
Where there are children having misbehaviour, generally the teachers complain that they spend much time in dealing with the behavioural problems. It also causes for the losing the valuable time for completing the portions in time. Above all, the failure to identify the real problem will affect the academic process and the status of the studies. It has been generally agreed upon that behavioural changes vary among school adults and there is a good percentage of misbehaviour found in college students. The misbehaviour of the children includes the aggressive nature or aggressive words to others. Misbehaviour of the students includes the display of bullying, threatening, or intimidating behaviour. They may bully at their friend or even about their own teachers. These kinds of students are even ready to physically abuse others, without regarding their social position or the status. They may destroy the public or the property of school.
