The Libyan conflict has had an enormous effect on the Libyan nation as a whole. This had led to the participation of the international community in order to resolve the conflict, and come up with a long lasting solution to the strife and civil unrest. As a leader of a member country in NATO, several factors come into play, which determine whether my country can participate in order to provide a solution to the problem (Daft & Lane, 2008). Being a member state of NATO, it is a responsibility to provide the assistance necessary so as to resolve any issue quickly and effectively.

The ongoing uprising in Libya was a result of the citizen’s dissatisfaction in the leader. Muammar al Gadhafi was considered a dictator, and his policies were seen as victimizing the citizenry. Political unrest was on the increase in Libya since the citizens were the target of atrocities committed by the leader (Nelson & Quick, 2012). The armed forces were harassing the population, yet it is the police who should be tasked with ensuring law and order within the country.

These problems can be considered a dominant influence in providing a reason as to why my country as a member community should participate. The citizens required protection from the government, and it is only the international community that would provide sufficient protection. Both economic and political measures had been put in place, and these did not seem to deter the leader from committing these atrocities, but instead he persisted. In the end, it was only through the use of military measures under NATO that Gaddafi would be defeated (Daft & Lane, 2008). It would be necessary for member countries to participate since they would act as a stronger force in resolving the conflict and also provide the necessary facilities to do so.

Moreover, human rights violations were rampant, and it became clear that participation is crucial. This also acted as a cause for my country to participate. As a country, we ensure that human rights are upheld. If another country does not ensure this, it becomes our duty to protect these rights and influence the country in question to protect such rights (Daft & Lane, 2008). Taking part as a member state of NATO would put the country in an advantageous position to ensure human rights are met in Libya. Thus, participation would act as an effective preventive strategy that would deter further harm to the citizens of Libya and also any international conflict that may arise. In effect, the participation of my country would avert any future danger.

The effectiveness of my country’s participation will be depended upon the results that would be realized. This can also be gauged by how quickly the conflict is resolved once my country has participated in finding a solution to the conflict (Daft & Lane, 2008). Thus, if the conflict is resolved in a timely manner, then it can be determined that our strategies have been effective in providing a solution.

Each individual is unique in their skills and abilities. Thus, as a leader there are several leadership skills that may be necessary in different situations. These skills determine the outcome of many decisions made; they also influence how certain situations are effectively avoided. In the case of Libya, several leadership skills are essential as they determine how the conflict is resolved and the outcomes expected. It has been determined that the behavior of a person is depended upon the environment.

This has been detailed as the interactional psychology approach whereby the attributes of a person should be known, and also the situation in question should be analysed. With this in mind, it will be easier to understand the human behavior. Thus, the leadership skills in this case would be based on the personality traits of the person, and the effects the environment has on the person (Nelson & Quick, 2012). This would act as the basis on how the conflict would be resolved.

There are several leadership skills that would be crucial in this scenario. One of the most vital leadership skills is patience since making rash decisions in such a case would lead to regrettable consequences. Libya is known as a country with well developed military capabilities. This can be attributed to the fact that it is a wealthy nation as a result of natural resources like oil. Furthermore, it has strong military capabilities as a result of a large military which also has the backing of nuclear weapons (Daft & Lane, 2008). Therefore, having such a leadership skill would ensure that conflict and violence do not culminate to become more destructive with dangerous consequences.

It would also be noteworthy that leadership skill presupposes that the person is agreeable. This means that it would be easy to resolve the conflict through diplomacy as the person is cooperative, who would effectively discuss how the conflict should be resolved. If the individual is disagreeable, then conflict may arise as a solution would not be easy to establish (Nelson & Quick, 2012). The individual may have their own interests at hand and are not flexible in accepting what the other party wants. Thus, this would easily cause more conflict instead of leading to a solution.
