In her works Patriot Acts, Katherine Crier talks about the nature of American politics. She suggests that politicians must be held responsible for their behavior. Most politicians do not have the interests of the Americans at heart since they will always mislead the public by circulating propaganda. Crier urges American politicians to tell the public the truth as regards to the status of the economy.

For instance, politicians should provide adequate information to the populace regarding the past, present and the future. In other words, the government must provide critical information concerning the future of the American economy.

She goes on to suggest that politicians must keep off from party politics and focus on issue-based politics. She warns that investments should not only be in form of money. Politicians must be wise and rational if America is to achieve its dream.

The views of criers are valid because they explain the deteriorating nature of the American economy. She notes that the American economy does not match those of other countries because the government has been sleeping on the job. For instance, corporations are not safe financially in the American economy because the views of Adam Smith are no longer applied (Crier 47).

Adam Smith observed that the market operates according to its own internal logics. For instance, consumers and producers have a cordial relationship. Producers will rarely manufacture goods that the public is reluctant to consume. In other words, producers will always analyze the market before manufacturing goods.

Consumers in the American market are not safe because of government regulations. Adam Smith suggested that the state should never interfere with the market. However, the American government is involved in the market actively, something that goes against the views of Adam Smith and Crier.

Regarding the role of government in regulating the activities of companies, Crier observes that the American government has failed. This is because fake products are in circulation in the US. In fact, harmful products are easily distributed to consumers without government’s intervention. Due to government’s laxity, the youths and the poor in society are languishing in public.

The government has failed to create job positions to youths graduating from colleges. On the side of health, the government is ineffective because the poor cannot access quality healthcare.

The US is no longer democratic according to Crier. To some extent, her view is valid. In a democratic society, the government should provide an enabling environment for individual fulfillment. In the US, the gap between the rich and poor is ever increasing.

Even though the views of Crier are valid, she does not take into consideration the developments in the international system. The US government can no longer liberalize the market due to globalization. Opening up the market would be detrimental to American investors. The government is involved in economic matters to safeguard the interests of American investors.

Moreover, the new threats in the international system do not permit the government to offer freedoms. For instance, the issue of terrorism has altered the domestic policies of many states. For instance, terrorism has forced the US to adopt profiling policies, which are repressive.

The 9/11 incident reshaped the American domestic and foreign policies. Crier does not explain why the government changed its policies. In this regard, her views on politics are misplaced.
