Introduction

The outcome of the role-play is realistic as it adequately reflects the actual political situation in Egypt. The play was intended to unveil the kind of leadership that Egypt’s President, Morsi, wants to employ in the country. Having realized that the judiciary does not embrace a leadership full of dictatorship, he plans to wipe out the current judiciary and put in place a new one. He claims that the current judiciary was appointed by the former regime, which did not respect democracy.

Sense in Morsi’s Declaration

As the role play indicates, Morsi convinces himself that he is people’s choice because he was elected by them. He beat other presidential candidates in the elections; according to him, this is a reflection that people did not like any other person but him. Morsi’s declaration that he is above the judicial review is senseless and uncalled for; he wants to use such powers to implement a dictatorial leadership in Egypt.

Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood are working hard to ensure that Egypt becomes a full Islamic state. The Muslim Brotherhood is so determined to endorse the president’s decisions that it does not care about the voice of the citizens. To ensure that all the proposed bills sail through, the president has restructured the constitutional assembly to consist of only Muslims. The president believes that this assembly will enable him to implement his views unopposed.

Morsi’s Decision and His Reasons

The kind of authority that Morsi wants to grant himself can be considered as near-absolute power, which is beyond review of any court in the country. To ensure that the constitution embraces his leadership, the president granted the constitutional assembly the same power. According to the Muslim Brotherhood, it is the judiciary that forces the president to grant himself such kind of power. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood claim that the judiciary wants to continue the leadership of Mubarak who appointed them and by doing that, it is an impediment to the country’s search for democracy. Morsi also plans to cut links with countries which do not support his decision; an example if the United States. He also plans to fight Israel if it tries to interfere with his decision.

Ramification of Morsi’s Decision

There are two possible outcomes that may crop up if Morsi continues to press on with his irrational decision. The first ramification is a revolution like the one witnessed in Mubarak’s regime; in the role play, the audience is extremely angry and the looks on their faces show that they are likely to resort to mass justice. This reflects the real situation in Egypt in which various people have held numerous demonstrations to force Morsi to revert the decision.

Another possible consequence that may result from Morsi’s decision is a military take over. The military may decide to take over the leadership of the country if Morsi insists on implementing what could give him power over any other body in the country. The military has opposed some of his proposals and is likely to bar him from implementing them. For instance, the military does not welcome the president’s move to cut down the aid the country receives from the United States. It is evident that if Morsi continues with his decision, the people or the military might gang against him and make him relinquish power.
