Preparation for Data Analysis
I will prepare your data file when data collection is complete. The prepared data file and a description of variables in the data file will be posted on your Group Homepage in the Survey Data folder (look for notification). Read the entire document. Additional required analyses may be added for some groups.
You will be using JASP and the data file prepared for you to complete this step.
You can work on the data analysis individually or with partners from your group – your choice. However, submissions must be individual – that is, every student must submit an output file to receive credit for this assignment, Data Analysis.
Data Analysis (check out Instruction Video for step-by-step instructions)
After opening JASP and uploading your data file, provide a label for each level of Gender and your Independent variable. In JASP, click on the variable name. A box will appear where you can type in the label over the code (for example type Male to replace “1” and so on…).
Now you are ready to run some descriptive analyses (Click here for sample output Download Click here for sample output).
Provide labels for each level of Age, Gender and your independent variable.
For Age, Gender, and your independent variable run Descriptive Statistics and check box “Frequency Tables.” Depending on the version of JASP, you may find Frequencies just below the box with the variables listed or scroll down to Tables and select Frequencies. This will give you a count of how many participants are in each group (for example, how many responded “Man,” “Woman,” “Non-binary” “Transgender”etc.).
For each dependent variable, run Descriptive Statistics. Select the dependent variables, go to Statistics and check the boxes for mean, median, mode, standard deviation, minimum and maximum.
Run a Descriptive Analysis on both dependent measures broken out by your independent variable. For example, if your dependent measures are Well-Being and Creativity and your independent variable is Openness, first select the two dependent variables and slide them into the variable box. Then select the independent variable and slide into Split box. You will use this table for the next step, Table and Figures.
Run ANOVA for each of your two hypotheses.
Pull down ANOVA, insert your independent variable as the Fixed Factor and first dependent variable in the Dependent Variable box. Check Descriptive Statistics under Display. Pull down Descriptive Plots and slide your independent variable in the Horizontal Axis box.
Repeat for your second dependent variable.
You will use these figures for the next step, Table and Figures.
Your group may be asked to conduct an additional analysis. Read through the document titled Description of Variables. Additional Analyses will be listed at the end of the document, after the variable descriptions.
Save output and submit output just as you did for JASP assignments (as HTML, word, or pdf format)
