Introduction
Intriguing questions are crucial for understanding a given topic, and opening doors for further research. Fertile questions involve those that are complex, deep, and perfect for inquiry on a topic and its further related research. The novel, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald explores Nick Carraway’s interactions with Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire.
Discussion
The novel is set in the Jazz Age, capturing the history of economic bloom during the U.S. post-war, jazz music, and free-flowing illegal liquor. Upon reading the novel various fertile questions could be formulated, seeking further research on its context and theme. The two fertile questions arising from the novel are: what are political and economic impacts of the World War I? and what are the challenges faced by American students born from poor families post-World War I?
Various interests prompted the asking of the two questions regarding the novel. The first question, “what are political and economic impacts of the World War I?”, was prompted by my interest in understanding the political and economic consequences of World War I (Fitzgerald). Additionally, I am interested in understanding the economic status and recovery plan of the U.S. post World War I. Subsequent topics from the question include “the economic and political effects of World War I.” The question directs the novel’s plot to the post-World War I American context. Meanwhile, some of the themes arising from the questions are suffering, leadership, and war.
Conclusion
The second question, “what are the challenges faced by American students born from poor families post-World War I?”, was prompted by interest in understanding the difficulties faced by Americans from poor economic backgrounds. Additionally, I asked the question because I wanted to understand the extent to which World War I and tough economic status are detrimental to education. The question’s subsequent topic includes “access to education during post-war America.” The themes exhibited in the question include education, human suffering, and economic empowerment. The question leads one to the U.S economic and educational context, post-World War I.
