Cognitive Area

The organization of a group plays a very important role in the sphere of communication. There is a list of issues that have to be discussed and evaluated before the actual work begins, and some of them will be mentioned below.

  1. Appointing a leader to direct and manage the group. This work becomes very important because any group has to have a leader to divide duties, organize and control the work, and be responsible if something goes wrong. The only point that should be mentioned is that a leader has to be chosen by the whole group so that each member of the group respects and listens to his/her orders.
  2. Establishing an agenda to help to meet the group’s goals. It seems to be somewhat important because not all people are fond of planning and analyzing the outcomes of the events beforehand. This is why those, who find it is important to establish agenda and follow one concrete plan, may take this step seriously; and those, who can cope with duties and tasks spontaneously, may omit this step and mind some draft ideas to follow.
  3. Encouraging group members to express opinions and asks questions. This point deserves much attention because the proper organization of the work influences considerably the results. When members are involved in discussions and are aware when it is possible to ask questions and when it is better to listen till the end, the results of such work are considered to be more effective and positive. Without any doubt, it is very important to encourage people into conversations.
  4. Encouraging group members to get to know one another. In my opinion, this point is not important to the overall effectiveness of a group. Group members can comprehend independently when the time to get to know each other, this is why it is not worth time and effort to encourage them to it within a certain period.
  5. Developing and adhering to ground rules. This issue is very important to the effectiveness of group work. Each member has to know the rules required and to follow them properly. The development of the rules plays a significant role. If some mistake happens, it is possible to clear up whether the wrong attitude to the rules or personal absent-mindedness is the reason for the failure.

Affective Area

The time to present a mini-speech in the lab comes. And different feelings bother a person during this period. However, the variety of my feelings about the speech was rather impressive.

  1. Before the presentation. I realize that this speech is important in my life, and I have to pass it through. I cannot disappoint people around, and this is why I need to do my best. Of course, some kind of anxiety is present. For some time, I realize that I have already forgotten everything. And when the time to go and speak is approaching, I become completely confused by everything.
  2. During the presentation. I attempt to choose one spot to gaze on in order not to be distracted by my audience and other things around. Within a short period, I feel better and realize that I know what I have to talk about and what order I have to follow. This is why my fear disappears, and all I try to do is to choose the necessary tone and speed to involve my listeners in this discussion.
  3. Following the presentation. I am the king! I have completed one of the most serious duties. I have informed many people about the topic I am responsible for. Though my knees are still trembling, the feeling of pride and satisfaction absorbs me, and I can do nothing with it.
  4. Reviewing the videotaped presentation. Well, when I get a chance to observe my speech from the videotape, I think that it will be a very informative and helpful experiment in my practice. First, I observe what position I choose and that my choice is rather winning: the audience can watch me perfectly and listen to each my word. I look pretty good sound very persuasive. Of course, I notice that sometimes my gestures and movements are too bright, and I need to control the next time. But in general, I am proud of the speech I presented and the way it passed.

I am developing my final speech before my class. I realize that this assignment is important for my classmates as well as for me. I have several reasons to succeed in this speech. My feelings are various: I feel scared because my mistakes may disappoint my class and my tutors; at the same time, I feel happy because I have a chance to present the final speech. I also feel nervous because I need to pick out the best and the most appropriate words to involve listeners and make them cooperate with me during the speech. However, I also feel very certain because my background knowledge helps me to comprehend what to expect from such speech before my class and what questions may appear at the end of the lecture. I also already know what tone and what vocabulary are better to use during this process. I truly believe that my final speech will be interesting and memorable.

Behavioural Area

Organization of a speech

  1. I know that one of the most difficult stages in the process of organizing a speech is the ability to define the main purpose and ask myself whether I am ready for it (McKay, Davis, and Fanning 295). I need to pass through the important preparations and be very careful with a thesis and examples to present. I get used to opening and end my speeches in the same way: a powerful beginning with a real-life example and a clear and interesting end to show the audience that this information is not difficult to comprehend using it for our everyday life. However, if I have to present a speech to an audience, I have already dealt with before, I try to think over another introduction and conclusion to prove that my public speaking skills may vary and be improved. Though clichés and frequently used words may be rather helpful, some novelties and captivating stories will help me be involved in the speech.
  2. A properly organized speech is important due to several reasons: (1) it helps to realize what needs to be taken further; (2) it provides a chance to evaluate possible pros and cons of the speech presented; and finally (3) it shows what methods will be more effective in a concrete case.

Evaluation of knowledge

  1. Development and proper presentation of a speech depend on many issues. Some of the are the obligation to train a speech when you are alone; the necessity to learn a bit about the audience before the speech; a firm belief that this knowledge is enough to present a speech; the promise never panic and think that results may be negative; the idea that no one else in the room knows more than a speaker.
  2. The necessity to have visual contact with the audience is one of the aspects of public speaking that have been improved during this course. With the help of several speeches, I realize that this kind of contact plays a very important role and can improve the results. When you see on your listeners, you realize what is more interesting to them and what kind of information seems boring. I think that the improvements within the aspect visual area of public speaking are worth attention.
