Introduction

Homicide and sexual assaults pose a significant challenge to Canada. Places like Ciudad Juarez and other related spots experience high rates of these incidences. Preventing and controlling this related violence has born less success (Bowden & Cardona, 2010). The behavior has a firm foundation in Canada. However, the assaults and the homicide do not exist independently. The two happen because they have a high correlation to other community vices.

These include drug abuse, social classes, races, and gender. In fact, gender-based violence is the most crucial issue in this community. The two vices of violence and sexual assaults have triggered artists to incorporate the themes within their artistic work. The Shadow Line is one of those artistic works. In chapter 10, it describes and portrays the relationship between homicide and other factors. In chapter 11, it describes the status of sexual assaults. In addition, it shows the relationship that exists between sexual assaults and other vices. This paper will analyze the relationship existing between the two violence and the other factors. The factors will include gender, race, substance abuse, and social class.

Gender

The Shadow line shows a close relationship between homicide, sexual assaults, and gender. It portrays and shows a community that does not respect women. The males are referred to as a stronger gender than men. Women should listen and obey the commands of men. They should follow the commands without reasoning or making personal judgments. Women who try to violate this social rule are subjected to homicide and sexual assaults (Gomme, 2007).

For example, women activists are killed mysteriously. They receive worrying threats from organized gangs. In addition, women are not allowed to acquire financial stability. Men require them to submit and rely on men for provision. Any woman seeking to have financial stability is buried sexually. In some cases, they are raped and killed. For example, workers in the factory of Maquiladora are used as slaves. Many of the workers die as a result of sexual assaults in the process of returning home.

Others are tortured in the factory and are killed by the chemical burns. In some cases, the management facilitates the death of women that have worked in the factory for a long. This is because they need to eliminate the older workers and replace them with new workers. Therefore, we can confirm that homicide and sexual assaults are strongly related to gender.

Substance Abuse

There is a high relationship between violence and drug abuse. The drug cartels have a high contribution in propagating sexual assaults and homicide. In this light, the drug cartels capture and abduct women and engage them in prostitution. Most drug dealers run and manage prostitution firms. They employ organized gangs to abduct children from their homes. The young girls are brought up and induced into prostitution.

In the process of abduction, some are raped, harassed, and killed. Activists who attempt to resist the homicide and sexual assaults are killed immediately. This is one by organized gangs that are managed by the drug cartels. In addition, people who abuse drugs affect their reasoning. They impair their judgment and lose sexual control. As a result, they abduct young girls and rape them. In some cases, they kill and dispose of the bodies of the dead. In fact, the shadow line portrays drug and substance abuse as one of the main contributing factors to sexual violence.

Race

Homicide and violence are propagated by racism. In this case, people migrate from their native countries into Canada. As a result, there is a mixture of various races. These races have diversities. They portray various physical and cultural disparities. Therefore, the races create violence originating from their differences. Particularly, some races are referred to and considered to be superior to others. For example, the white race is considered superior in many communities of Canada. Therefore, black people face sexual assault and violence. Most of their children are abducted and killed. In this light, the minor races are affected significantly. For example, the black race forms the minor race in Canada. As a result, they have little powers and control that expose them to sexual torture and homicide.

Social Class

Social class is the main factor of human homicide and sexual assaults. In this light, people who come from poor families are less fortunate than the wealthy. Therefore, they have little power to guard and protect their children. Consequently, wealthy people take advantage of this situation. They abduct females and use them for sexual satisfaction. Later, they kill and dispose of their bodies in the open fields.

On the other hand, the poor cannot pursue those who carry out the actions of sexual violence. They are subjected to coping with bitterness and loss. In addition, the poor seek to obtain money through any possible means. As a result, they indulge in prostitution and sexual trade. In this case, some of the wealthy people misuse them and kill the prostitutes. This violence is created by a lack of money and living in low standards.

Fighting Homicide and Sexual Assaults

The most crucial step towards fighting homicide and sexual assaults is the elimination and reduction of drug traffickers. This action will ensure that Canada has a lower number of drug cartels. Reduction in the number of drug cartels will reduce the prostitution industries they organize. As a result, sexual violence that is related to drug cartels will reduce drastically and significantly. In addition, fighting drugs will reduce the number of drug abusers in Canada.

As a result, the impairment of peoples’ judgment will reduce. Consequently, the abduction of women due to substance abuse and sexual violence will decrease simultaneously. Therefore, the government should adopt zero tolerance for drug abuse. They should commit their efforts towards eliminating drug trade and trafficking inside their borders. In this light, they will curb and control sexual violence.

Moreover, the government should aim at reducing the level of corruption in its system. Ironically, the policemen join efforts to propagate drug trafficking. Surprisingly, police harass women in their line of duty. They take advantage of their authority to assault women sexually. This is a serious menace to the community of Canada. Therefore, the government should take stern measures against the police harassing women. Also, it should interdict those participating in drug trafficking. This will ensure that the general public is protected against sexual abduction and assault in the community. In other words, the wrongdoers should not just get away with it without facing justice (Janoff, 2007).

It is clear that racism is a key factor that propagates sexual assault and homicide. In this light, non-governmental organizations should start initiatives that preach unity. Members of the public should be urged to unite and consider their neighbors as brothers. They should be urged to appreciate the diversity that exists between them and work together. The peace initiatives will help the citizens to stay in collaboration peace and brotherhood. Examples of the initiatives include workshops, civil education, and religious conventions. Although the initiatives may be ignored, they play a significant role in uniting the people and urging them to work together.

Social classes help in propagating sexual violence in Canada. Therefore, the government should aim at distributing resources equally. They should create employment opportunities across gender, age, and financial ability. This ensures that all people get an equal share to sustain their lives. Particularly, the government and other bodies should create business and employment opportunities for women (Smith & Zahn, 1999).

This will ensure that women are financially stable. Therefore, they do not indulge in prostitution because of poverty. Consequently, cases of sexual assault and violence will reduce. However, they should ensure that married women are not harassed by their husbands due to financial stability. When these cases arise the authority should not let the men get away without pursuit should be sued and punished.

Conclusion

The paper has discussed the various relationships that exist between sexual violence and other moral vices in Canada. It has portrayed that their gender, race, drug abuse, and social classes propagate sexual violence. In addition, it has given various ways that the community can reduce sexual violence and support development. Therefore, it is an all-inclusive essay that encompasses the challenges of sexual violence and its possible solutions.
