Decision-making application

Nurses make decisions consistent with their specialized knowledge and medical experience. Without inclusive knowledge and acumen, diagnostic precision can be conceded, and decisions may be overdue. As an Informatics Nurse Specialist, I believe that in order to help clinicians manage the decision probabilities, IT department has to develop an application with the aim of simplifying the diagnosing process and minimizing the risk of medical faults (Yuan, Finley, Long, Mills, & Johnson, 2013). This application would be characterized by a number of specific features. First of all, the software application would comprise the managerial and nursing process screen layouts. The evaluation would be automatically chosen consistent with the age range. In this case, the diagnoses would be proposed by the application after the evidence is introduced, and could as well be specified by the nurse (Johansen & O’Brien, 2015). The interventions for the selected verdict are carefully chosen by organizing the care strategy design. This type of structure would be practical and meet the necessities required by the nurses’ tight timetables and substantial workloads. The user interface employed in the software should provide captivating helpfulness to the nurse with minimal distraction.

Decision-making is a dynamic intangible procedure that may have a serious impact on patient outcomes (Liao, Hsu, & Chu, 2015). Nurses need to realize the factors that would assist them in making comprehensive decisions. These decisions should be thoroughly reviewed so as to develop the procedure more in this expert area. In the case of the proposed application, decision-making would be an imperative and multifaceted idea. This application would contain decisions of a medical, managerial, moral, and ethical nature. As in other occupations, the choices in nursing are made utilizing the common features of the decision-making concept. The circumstantial factors accompanied by the level of knowledge and expertise are the crucial aspects that influence decision-making in nursing. Additionally, due to the fact that decision-making procedure, predominantly in nursing, is paramount to inducing patient outcomes and wellbeing, this application has to be developed to improve the nurse’s skills in medical decision-making.

Database project summary

The current database project is dedicated to an array of patients affected by infectious diseases. Its purpose is to store the information regarding the screening results in those patients. The database and application that connects to it are designed in order to help the nurses track screening results, diagnose infections, and save the screening outcomes in a much quicker and easier way. The structure of the database is presented by five tables that comprise the data concerning nurses, patients, screening results, screening status, and the list of infections. The database is normalized and is currently in the 3rd normal form. Each of the tables has a primary key and several foreign keys. This was done in order to provide relevant relationships between tables and exclude data duplication. The database also has a unique field designed to store the patients’ Social Security Number in the database. This step is designed to assist in avoiding probable conflicts related to the database constraints. The user interface of the database is performed in a minimalist style in order to save screen space and display the information in a way that would allow the user see all the requested data at the same time. The drop-down lists are used to provide the best user experience and simplify the data input procedure.
