There is no use denying the fact that every organization might face various challenges while performing its main duties. These challenges could be taken as an integral part of every process as it is impossible to take into account and analyze all possible variants of the development of a certain situation. That is why, the efficiency of the functioning of every company could be determined not by the absence of some complicated situations, though, by the ability of the officials and staff to overcome all obstacles and manage the company in terms of some crisis. Especially for such situations, a set of actions is created for workers to know what to do and how to respond to some problems and challenges. That is why, to understand the nature of challenges that a company might face in its functioning and how it could overcome them, the functioning of Good Samaritan Hospital could be analyzed, and the needed information obtained.
First of all, it should be said that Good Samaritan Hospital “is a world-class academic medical center affiliated with both USC and UCLA Schools of Medicine” (“Tradition of Caring” para. 1). It is could be found in Los Angeles and it also aims at providing outstanding care for its patients (“Tradition of Caring” para. 1). With this in mind, resting on the nature of the given organization, it is possible to say that the most important challenge which it faces nowadays is the inability to suggest qualified healthcare services for all people, no matter what their level of income or status is. The thing is, that this problem is topical to the whole healthcare sector. Not all people have medical insurance and treatment at the hospital turns out to be very expensive for them. Moreover, even patients, who possess this sort of insurance, very often are not able to afford treatment as the insurance could not cover the spending. With this in mind, it is possible to say that a certain group of people could be deprived of qualified medical services. Especially vital this challenge becomes in terms of the world financial crisis which influences the economy of states.
Under these conditions, Good Samaritan Hospital tries to overcome this challenge with the help of various measures. First of all, there are various programs whose main aim is to guarantee support for various groups of people and help them to recover. Moreover, such a program as The Auxiliary is also aimed at teaching people the main points of health care for them to be able to help their close people under some complicated conditions.
Besides, it should also be said that Good Samaritan Hospital tries to avoid the situation when a person is not able to obtain some qualified healthcare in case of some problems with his/her insurance. That is why the organization underlines the necessity of this document for a patient otherwise some other remedies could be applied to a patient.
However, it should be said that there is still much to be done to improve the current state of affairs. First of all, some social programs should be created and implemented. Bevan states, that only a systematic approach towards the improvement of the healthcare sector could be used (142). This statement could be recognized in terms of the idea of Perry et al. that a shift to the free health care system should be made (714). They state the fact that under modern conditions the close interaction between the government and a hospital and the creation of various community programs as the result of this cooperation could help to improve the situation (Perry et al. 715). Additionally, according to Kuhlmann and Annandale, the necessity of the creation of cost-effective health services becomes more obvious and it can be achieved only with the help of some radical changes in the functioning of hospitals (410). These changes should be applied to their financial policy, as hospitals, including the Good Samaritan one, should not be oriented only on people with stable or high incomes. However, there is another way to reduce the cost of healthcare services which lies in the introduction of telemedicine (Alpay and Heathfield 87). This issue could help to save money which is spent on visits and size the bigger audience. Finally, Bandali, Zhu, and Gamble state that hospitals should devote more attention to the sphere of education of young professionals, trying to make it less expensive and more efficient at the same time (181).
With this in mind, having analyzed the given issue, it is possible to make a certain conclusion. It should be said that Good Samaritan Hospital faces problems connected with the financial side of healthcare and which are peculiar to the whole sector. There are some steps, made by the organization, however, much still should be done. Many various researchers devote their works to this sphere and some of the steps, outlined by them, could be used in practice.
