Neuropsychological diagnosis examines mental processes using a set of special tests to qualify and quantify disorders of higher cognitive functions. The primary goal of neuropsychological diagnosis is to identify a neuropsychological factor or central syndrome-forming mechanism that alters and integrates all symptoms of higher mental function impairment (Cohen et al., 2022). Finding the element is a flexible and logical process that depends on correctly identifying primary and secondary symptoms. Their identification and qualification rely on the correctness of the examination using specific neuropsychological techniques and considering the subject’s age and premorbid level.

For instance, the Stroop Test is actively operated in psychology to measure cognitive flexibility. It is used extensively in neuropsychology to monitor brain function and levels of mental activity, and psychological equilibrium (Erdodi et al., 2018). If people can quickly switch from reading words to naming colors, their cognitive thinking is flexible enough. Using the Stroop effect, the test measures the time required for standard color naming and similar action. The Stoop Effect is an added difficulty in reading words when the color of the letters does not match the word’s meaning (Figure 1). Among other things, results can tell one about the ability to focus and concentrate at that particular moment. High-stress levels, unresolved problems not coming out of one’s head, and pronounced sleepiness interferes with the Stroop Test (Erdodi et al., 2018). However, if a person seems to have everything in order, but the test is still given with apparent difficulty, then perhaps the test taker should pay attention to the ability to concentrate.

Furthermore, tasks based on the examination are often included in various self-development and brain training programs since it is helpful for the mind, in principle, to make new connections and to be able to switch between them. In recent years, variations of the Stroop Test have been used to help people increase mental alertness and sharpen directed attention skills (Erdodi et al., 2018). It is an essential mental resource and provides the ability to monitor thoughts and focus on what is needed. Thus, it is one of the most effective techniques for helping people measure and develop brain functionality.
