Clinical Problem Statement

The urgency of this problem lies in the fact that, according to the World Health Organization, more than a billion people worldwide are overweight (Samara et al., 2019). The problem of obesity is relevant for countries in which most of the population is constantly starving, and in industrialized countries it has long been a serious aspect of public health. In Western Europe, 10-20% of men and 20-25% of women are overweight or obese, and in some Eastern European countries, the proportion of people with obesity is 35%. Obesity interacts with various organs and systems, including the central nervous system, which entails negative consequences for the overall health of the whole organism (Samara et al., 2019). Therefore, the clinical problem of obesity and health promotion is really relevant.

Clinical Question

Population

In the USA, overweight is observed in more than half of the population. 30-35% of the workforce and 25% of children and adolescents are obese (Lavie et al., 2018).

Intervention 26

In the general population, patients with obesity are examined by calculating the mass and body index, by measuring height and weight. Obesity is diagnosed with a body mass index of more than 30 (Gómez-del-Río et al., 2020).

Comparison

Primary obesity is caused by an energy imbalance between consumption with certain genetic markers and energy consumption. Unlike healthy people, obese patients excessively consume high-calorie foods with a rhythm that dominates the diet and is high in daily intake (Gómez-del-Río et al., 2020). Thus, it is necessary to compare eating habits and the level of physical activity.

Outcome

Obesity can have quite serious outcomes, even ending in patient’s death. They most often occur due to a fatal outcome in sleep due to obstructive apnea.

Time Frame

Most often, patients are diagnosed with obesity in childhood or adolescence, less often in adulthood; the disease is chronic and requires constant monitoring.
