There are a number of principles and policies that could be considered as beneficial in the process of providing care for individuals’ mental health in early childhood. When taking care of children, it is vital to think about a comprehensive approach, as one’s influence on the surrounding community, parents and the child itself is very important. As noted in the course materials, establishing a sense of trust and cooperation between the care provider and their subjects is a central part of the process. By fostering trust, one can ensure that individuals are able to more successfully recover from their conditions. In addition, it builds a sense of community conductive to a more stable living environment.
For the purposes of meeting these goals, it is necessary to foster a sense of agency in clients. For children, having a sense of actively participating in the process can be especially rewarding. It allows the care professionals to more deeply understand their issues, enhance understanding and create a sense of connection between the client and their provider (Lysaker & Leonhardt, 2012). In addition, it falls in line with the concept of being a caretaker of dignity, which is a concept I discussed previously. In order to promote the dignity of the subject, the people that surround them, and the larger community, it is necessary to allow them to feel like their wishes, rights and capacities are respected. In this process, giving people an opportunity to speak their mind, as well as have an active participation in their course of treatment can be considered as good way to help. I will ensure that I listen to, record, and discuss my clients’ feedback with them, in order to get the fullest and most accurate perspective on their future path of treatment. In addition, I will use this opportunity to recognize the needs and wishes of the individuals I serve, and the larger community as a whole.
Sense of Connection and Community
In addition, it is important to perform practice in a way that emphasizes the importance of local community, tradition and custom. People that comprise individual’s surroundings are a vital pillar of support, history and social interaction. Research has shown that most types of recovery and mental support need to allow individuals to exist within their social setting, and regularly interact with other people (Kohrt et al., 2018). In the prospect of enhancing the quality of mental healthcare provision, a professional needs to engage both individuals and the community as a whole. This process falls in line with the requirement of the profession, and also works to help them assist a larger range of people in their work. I think that the value of connection is central to the native community I serve, and that my work can help promote it further. I will seek to implement group activities, informational panels, counselling sessions and various types of therapy that work with people on different levels of influence. The most necessary resources for this type of endeavor will have to be both time and money, as they are a requirement in creating new psychosocial approaches to care. Furthermore, it is vital that I am able to build trust within the community I serve, and have enough people that would listen to what I have to say.
