Nursing is an evolving profession just like others that change according to various trends. However, an advantage of this profession is that it is easy to predict the future and develop necessary measures to avert the expected challenges (Halstead 2010). This speech is aimed at educating nurses about how the practice of nursing is expected to grow and shift.
“First, I would like to state that nursing is a career that refers to the provision of healthcare services to communities, families, and individuals. Therefore, the following are some of the ways of improving this practice. It is necessary to explain that even though nursing is a department within a healthcare system it performs specific duties that differ from those of other departments. This profession should restructure its roles to ensure there is a clear distinction between the functions and roles of nurses and other physicians. This includes transforming leadership and management of various nursing practices to ensure there is transparency, accountability, and satisfaction.
The education of nurses should be transformed with an increase in institutions offering nursing courses. In addition, their curriculums should be restructured to reflect the changes in this profession. Nurses should be trained to offer quality services that are relevant to the needs of the population. Nurses should be allowed to attend training and workshops to ensure their skills are refreshed. Governments and well-wishers should sponsor nurses to study additional courses that will help them in the future.
Modern societies are synonymous with modern technology that is efficient and faster compared to the previous one. This means health facilities should use modern technology to provide quality services. For instance, communication is adopting a digital dimension, and patients should be informed and monitored through mobile phones and internet services. The need to offer a quick and reliable diagnosis is pushing nursing to incorporate modern technology in its operations.
Finances play significant roles in promoting the operations of healthcare facilities. Nations should allocate more money in managing diseases and financing palliative care programs to ensure people get quality treatment. Well-wishers should sponsor various health operations to ensure human health is safeguarded. Subsidies and exceptions should be increased to enable the disabled and poor people to get good services. In addition, health insurance schemes should be established at a fast rate to ensure human health is promoted regardless of their financial situations. Medicare and Medicaid should be common and mandatory practices in all nations.
Nurses have switched careers within the last two decades due to poor pay and unfavorable working conditions. Many registered nurses resigned due to endless frustrations. The number of students taking this career had declined and this was a serious threat to the future of nursing. However, recent reports show that this trend has changed and more students are interested in this career. The regulation requiring nurses to train for five years and possess a good internship report before they are allowed to practice must be lifted. In addition, they should get good salaries and work in a comfortable environment to ensure they are conformable. The shift from mandatory routine observation should be replaced with nurse-based services to increase the popularity of this career.”
Transformation of nursing is essential to ensure patients are satisfied with the quality of services offered by nurses (Jones 2013). Quality education, identification of the roles of nurses, improved technology, adequate finances, and immediate replacements of nurses are important issues that will improve the practices of this profession. Nursing should be transformed to ensure nurses and patients get satisfied with their work and services respectively (Mason 2011). The future of this profession depends on how nations will implement different recommendations suggested by various research groups (Kenney 2010). Even though, this process will not achieve immediate results it will be a good step that will improve nursing practices.
