Introduction
Just like other human beings, gay couples have their own rights that are supposed to be respected by all of us. In this case, we are arguing that gay couples should be accorded the same rights like other normal couples. Same sex marriages should not be discriminated in any way and this is as far as their rights are concerned.
We can not live in denial as far as gay marriages are concerned because they are here with us. In this case, the whole society should appreciate that we have gay couples and marriages and thereby give them their rights for long term sustainability. Therefore, instead of living in denial, we should learn to live with them as part of our society. As far as this paper is concerned, gays and lesbians’ have every right to get married and this is a fact. They have every right to get married because they are normal human beings like others.
The only difference is their sexuality and this should not be used to deny them their rights (Chauncey, 2004, p. 17). Whenever gay people decide to get married, they have taken it upon themselves to start a family. This means that they should be given an opportunity to exercise their rights as time goes by.
Various people have come up with their own arguments in relation to why gays should not be given their full rights and this is not good. In this case, they argue that they should not be given their rights because they are going against the norms of the society.
The general traditions and beliefs of our current society have changed drastically and this is a reality that the whole society should learn to accept. This means that gay couples should not be criticized or crucified for their sexuality because it is their own way of life.
There is no normal couple that can feel better if they are denied their rights and this should not be extended to gay couples. This means that gay couples have a right to live their lives without any restrictions. In a broad perspective, it is quite obvious that gay couples should be extended the rights that normal couples enjoy (Bowal and Campbell, 2007, p. 21). In this case, all the rights that are enjoyed by married couples should be given to these members of our society without any restrictions.
Discussion
There is no place where it has been agreed upon that some members of the society should be denied their rights and this applies to gay couples and marriages. This means that our conscious should not allow us to discriminate on others simply because they are gay.
Accessibility to legal rights that are enjoyed by married people should also be advanced to gay marriages. It should be known that up to ten countries around the world have legalized gay marriages and this should be replicated in other countries. Legalization of these marriages should be fully enforced for the society’s well being.
We all know that a person can not enjoy his rights without legalization and that is why these couples are supposed to be registered (Case and Stewart, 2009, p. 28). This will enable them to enjoy the rights that other normal couples enjoy as a result of legalizing their marriages. Recognition of gay marriages has been a controversial issue in many countries and this is because of the attention that it has been given by all stakeholders.
Like other marriages, gay couples should not be denied any legal access because this will automatically amount to discrimination which is not good at all. All the attendant benefits that are enjoyed by people in normal marriages should be advanced to gay marriages because this is a necessity that they can not be denied.
Sexual orientation should not be used as a basis to deny gay couples other important services that other couples enjoy. The physiological well being of a couple is properly advanced in a marriage and that is why every effort should be made to give them their rights.
The society’s institutions should be ready to support gay couples because this is good for the development of couples (Lester and Hayes, 2005, p. 32). As a matter of fact, children benefit a lot from a legally recognized union and this should be a good reason to give gay couples all their rights. As a society, we should not single out gay people because this will be tantamount to discrimination.
We can not say that gay people are ineligible for marriage just because they are of the same sexual orientation. If this is done, it will amount to stigmatization and thereby attract public discrimination against them. There are no social orders that we should depend upon to recognize and give same sex marriages their rights and dignity in our society.
Universal human rights demand that every member of the society should be given his rights and this will apply to gay couples. Equality before law demands that we should recognize everybody in our society as a human being regardless of his sexual orientation and this should be applied to same sex marriages like gays and lesbians.
This implies that their rights are not a privilege that they are supposed to be given but it is rather their right by all standards (Nussbaum, 2009, p. 28). In this case, a normal couple attracts some equality in our society and this should be extended to gay marriages.
Opposition to gay marriages rights can be attributable to homophobia that has not been advanced to other normal marriages and couples. Denying gay couples their rights implies that we are moving towards the era of prohibitions on interracial marriages. As much as gay marriages are performed and practiced openly in different societies, they should be recognized for long term sustainability.
When we talk about gay marriages, they should be officiated in church just like normal marriages because this will be informing the whole society of their union. There is no way that gay couples can have children and this means that they have a right to adopt.
In this case, they should not be denied any right to adopt children of their choice for them to raise a family (Sherkat et al, 2010, p. 34). This is because normal families can have children and this should also be enjoyed by gay couples despite their sexual orientation. Children that are raised by both members of a couple are likely o grow up well than those ones who are raised by single parents.
Legal responsibilities should be given to gay marriages because such rights are normally advanced to normal marriages between opposite sexes. There are various compensations that are advanced to other spouses and this should also be given to gay couples.
For instance, a couple is entitled to any compensation that might be given but there are occasions where gay couples are denied such rights and this amounts to discrimination. Normal couples are not discriminated upon in relation to their marital status and this should be extended to gay marriages as a right that they are entitled to. Laws that prohibit any discrimination should be enforced in the society to protect gay marriages (Chauncey, 2004, p. 45).
This should mostly be enforced in relation to their marital status that has always been looked down upon. As far as healthcare is concerned, gay couples should be able to make medical decisions that concern their partners. In normal marriages, a partner is allowed to make a medical decision for an incapacitated partner but this has not been advanced to gay marriages in any case.
Partners are supposed to be notified on their spouses’ condition but this is a right that has been denied to gay marriages. Hospital visitations have been restricted to gay couples and this is not the case with normal marriages.
This is a right that is supposed to be given in a normal marriage and there is no need for restrictions. As far as gay marriage rights are concerned, employees should be treated as spouses when it comes to insurance and this should be done in relation to various contracts that they might enter into as couples (Sherkat et al, 2010, p. 34). In a normal marriage, partners are able to sue for wrongful death but this right has not been enjoyed by gay couples because they have not been recognized legally.
This is a right that they are supposed to enjoy because emotional distress or injury can be caused by a spouse. In this case, the society should be able to recognize that gay couples also have rights like other normal couples.
Conclusion
Normal couples are allowed to use probate laws and procedures and this is a right that is supposed to be given to gay couples for long term sustainability. This means that their family should be treated as an economic unit and this is an important right that such couples can not be denied in any case.
As we have seen from all this aspects, it is quite obvious that gay marriages are normal like any other opposite sex marriages meaning that they should enjoy all rights. The surviving partner in a gay marriage should be given the same rights that a spouse in a normal marriage enjoys.
We have seen that gay couples have a lot of rights that are supposed to be respected by the society for their general wellbeing and it will be better if they are supported (Bowal and Campbell, 2007, p. 45). The issue of accepting gay marriages in our society should not be emerging in the current age and era but rather we should focus on how they will be assisted to enjoy their rights.
We live in a society that has different people and there are those ones who will find it hard to accept that we have gay marriages. Such people should be educated and called upon to respect gay couples like normal human beings instead of infringing on their rights.
There has been an argument that children who are raised in gay marriages progress well in school and this means that it is not a bad marriage as people might want it to be. The world is dominated by traditional families but gay marriages are a reality that we are supposed to live with in this century.
Nobody should deny gay couples any right whatsoever because of their sexual orientation in our society (Nussbaum, 2009, p. 63). We can not feel good and better if we are denied any right and this means that what we do to them should always be justifiable and right in the eyes of God. A gay marriage is just like any other marriage and there should be no cause of alarm whatsoever.
