Introduction
Interracial marriage is the union of two persons from different races, for instance, marriage between a black and a white American, a Chinese and an African, a Germany and a Briton. This marriage unites people from different countries, regions, continents, cultures and beliefs. Furthermore it brings together peoples who believe in different religions for instance, an Arab who is a Muslim marrying an American who is a Christian, an Indian marrying a Buddhism believer.
Background of Interracial Marriage
In the Western countries definite laws have had rules prohibiting or controlling interracial marriage in ancient times, for instance Germany at some point in the Nazi era, South Africa when apartheid was dominant in South African countries in Africa. And in the United States, before the superlative Court’s decision in Loving v. Virginia. In nineteen sixty-seven Interracial marriages are becoming so common today, because the laws that forbidden these marriages in the past, have been abolished in many states and these marriages furthermore, have been legalized in many countries and hence giving room for these marriages to take place. Interracial marriages should be encouraged and promoted over the world because of the following reasons.
Reasons for promoting interracial marriages
Interracial marriages Promote Socialization: Interracial marriages bring together people from different races hence reducing the racial discrimination that has dominated in the past for in many counties and continents, for instance the blacks in the past were being discriminated against by the whites in America and Germany, the whites felt that they were superior to the blacks and seeing the blacks has slaves from the dark African continents. Hence the whites felt that they were more privileged than the blacks in their own country. Interracial marriages to a great extent have reduced these discriminations.
Promotes Common Good among Different Races
Secondly, an interracial marriage promotes the general acceptance of people from a different race in the new society or community and also promotes the appreciation of other people’s values in the new community and their contributions to the new society. These unions promote understanding and unity among people from different society and hence indirectly promoters peace in the world.
Interracial Marriage promotes cross boundary Development
Enables Furthermore interracial marriage breaks psychological barriers that exist among people from different race boundaries hence, opening ways for understanding for one another and coming up with new experiences and expectations. For instance it promotes the exchange of diverse ideas from different regions that may promote economic growth in different countries for instance exchange of modern technology in less developed countries.
It enables Different cultures to appreciate the other Cultures
In addition this marriage encourages learning interracial understanding and appreciation of other people’s cultures, beliefs and regions and promotes cultural diversity in the world. Culture diversity promotes the exchange of different cultures between different communities and societies and hence creating a good relationship between different communities and understanding the important values of a given society (Eric pg 67).
It Reduces the Chances of developing Genetic Disorders in Siblings
Biologically, interracial marriage prevents health complications related to chromosomal disorders, which is very common in people belonging to the same race for instance same diseases are very common in some parts of the world, mixing of blood reduces this health complication to a large extend.
Some Claims against Interracial Marriage which are not substantially true
The Claim that Couples Suffers from Racial Discrimination is False
Some groups of people have a belief that interracial marriage can not thrive because there are still some higher instances of racism. These groups claim that racism is still dominant in many countries for instance, in Germany the blacks are less privileged than the white community. The group of people who claim this is wrong and what they are doing to the people of the world is to initiate a fear of promoting interracial marriage.
They claim they put forward is not justifiable since it is very evident that racism is the dominion of public life and not the dominion of personal life and hence love is not prohibited by the beliefs of a majority but the affection of the two people who are in the relationship. People who believe in the above stated claim have to change their mindset since there have been more than seventy five percent of interracial marriages in a country such as the united states of America for example which have beat the age of time and the couples have stayed in the marriage for the rest of their lives and enjoyed life just like the couples in same race type of marriage (Dunlop pg 56).
The Claim that Couples Suffers from Interracial Barriers is not true
There is a widely claimed notion that interracial marriage couples can be affected by interracial barriers such as cultural difference which contribute a lot to the enhancement of the barrier in their marriages (Grunge, p 46). These groups of people who believe in this notion also claim that since it always takes very long time for the partners to understand and appreciating each others culture and beliefs then interracial marriage is a problematic driven kind of relationship and should be last thing an individual should aspire to have.
The above notion as far as it is known, is shear lies and in fact it is quit easier nowadays for people of different cultures to get along easily than those partners who are from the same ethnicity and cultural background. Interracial marriage in itself is a very good channel for promoting diversity in culture and can lead to enhancement of moral values and fundamentals principles in the family which is as a result of this kind of marriage since there is a blend of cultures from two different communities and communal lifestyle.
When these fundamentals are working together with the basis of diverse cultural practice roots, as in interracial marriages, there can be a resultant rip of the benefit of getting the best out of this mixing of races and there can be a formation of another formation of new cultural characteristics which makes the society rich in culture and diversity.
The Notion that the Acceptability of this Marriage type in the community is a major Challenge is biased
We have had many people claim that the general acceptance of interracial marriages by the new family and society is normally very difficult and that it leads to rejection and disagreements in the new family. It is also claimed that sometimes it is very difficult for the family members to accept the new member in the family who is not from the same race and hence a person may have problems in staying together with the new familyand the discrimination and hostility is normal very common in this type for marriage because the cultural barriers and religion difference (Grunge, p24).
In reality it all the above claims are all biased and unjustifiable and in fact various studies have shown that many communities of the world usually have a tendency of giving respect and warm welcome to all the strangers and especially the individuals who join their community on marital grounds. Hence all the claims that the individual getting married to another community which is different in race to hers is a mere fear that people try to develop in others and we should try and enhance interracial marriage and it will surely bring forth more advantages than regrets the way some individuals perceive.
The Challenge of Communication Barrier is not an Issue anymore
It is important to observe that before the peak of globalization, Communication barriers was a major challenge to many individuals who involved themselves in intercontinental trade or relationship and individuals found it hard to effectively communicate with each other since they had a language communication barrier (Kennedy, p 52), this also made it hard for people to get along easily hence it was a major problem for example for an African from Native Africa to interrelate with a Russian from Native Russia. Today the scenario is completely different and there is an overhaul of such a situation, people can now learn several languages easily and become well attached to what is going on in another place at any given time since the world has become a global village.
Conclusion
Interracial marriage is an aspect of enlightenment outlying from being an indication of development and a pathway to improving the world. From a common overview people who intermarry are the pioneers of the elimination of interracial psychological barriers, in addition models for a prospect world where people will not at any chance divide themselves by old-fashioned and risky cultural identity, by their selection a cross partners confirmation and the reality of the individual condition.interracial marriage relationship will enhance creativity and life promoting through cultural, genetically and spiritual exchange fertilization, in that reason interracial marriage partners are probable to battle against racial evils that threaten loved ones for instance, racial discrimination. Conflict solving and intervention of the most common issues experienced in the world today can only be achieved by all the races of the world working together or even freely intermarrying to promote cohesion and oneness, since we are all members of the same species although differentiated by cultural difference and communication styles (Knox pg 89).
