Water is one of the essential resources crucial for human life. Due to the fact that the number and severity of environmental issues have been increasing over the past decades, this vital element of life is threatened. The inefficient use of water reservoirs in many countries around the globe adds to this issue. We have decided to choose this topic for the proposed senior project and address the problem of wasted water in the Ibrahim River in Lebanon. Since there was a lack of prior research on the topic in question, this project has involved a wide range of activities, including a site inspection, determining average variables through programming, and applying identifying relevant information that can facilitate the success of the initiative.

The purpose of this project was to create a water treatment system that will allow for establishing and maintaining the provision of high-quality drinking water. GIS was one of the main tools contributing to program completion, alongside the use of satellite images and further valuable resources. Moreover, a site inspection was conducted, as well as data collection and analysis. In regards to the methodology, prior to determining the water treatment and tank design, the collected variables were examined through the Thornthwaite Equation, which is widely applied to determine evapotranspiration (Hashim et al., 2019). Moreover, a program was written for values such as precipitation and excess. We have also determined the water treatment method, hence, pumping the water from the reservoir to the water treatment plant.

Furthermore, the tank was designed by determining the watershed area, average elevation, and additional variables to identify the volume of the reservoir. To prove the utility of the project, we also discussed the outcomes related to the number of people supplied with a sufficient amount of water with and without the reservoir. The final section of Part 1 details how this project can benefit the population financially. In turn, the second part of the project includes information on water treatment and tank design.
