Introduction
When the title of a movie showing at the cinemas catches ones attention then it becomes obvious that the person will want to go watch it. However, there is always a question that remains at the back of ones mind and that is who to go with to watch the movie. The decision one makes on who to go with is more often than not based on experiences one has had in the past with different people at the cinema. This essay seeks to show going to the movies is a different experience depending with who you go with.
Movie Experiences with a Parent, a Boyfriend and a Friend
The whole experience about going to the movies starts at home and has different dimensions to it as the time elapses. These dimensions include but are not limited to the time factor, the financial factor and the nature of the movie to watch and decision making. All these go into shaping the whole movie experience. The different experiences can be looked at based on the sitting position, who pays and the kind of movie that is picked.
Where to Sit
The sitting position in a movie theater definitely differs depending on who you go to the movie with. If you go with the parent, you are most likely to sit somewhere at the front so as to get a better view and also because parents prefer sitting at the front, away from younger people who prefer sitting at the back. When with a boyfriend, one is likely to sit in the back rows of the theater and in most cases at the corner of the particular row. The situation is also different when you go to the movies with a friend because the sitting position varies, that is it might be anywhere from the center of the theater to the back depending on where the two agree to sit but definitely not towards the front of the theater.
Who Pays
Whoever pays for the movie tickets and other movie expenses such as movie snacks is also different in that in the case where one goes with the parent, the parent pays for all the expenses as is generally expected. If one goes with a friend the costs are shared in most cases depending on the general agreement between the friends. For example the total costs can be split into two or one pays for one thing while the friend pays for the other. When one goes with the boyfriend, as expected it is the boy friend pays for everything unless the girlfriend offers to pay.
What Movie to Pick
In each case, the nature of the movie that is picked differs. When one goes with the parent, the movie picked is mostly of a general nature with a story line that is suitable for both the parent and the child to watch together. The movies are in most cases rated general audience or suitable for all family viewing and are some how educative in nature.
The movie likely to be picked when in the company of a friend is always a certain age rated depending on the ages of the two friends. The kind of movie normally does not matter as long as the friends are in agreement. The movie is easy to pick as friends have more or less similar tastes. When with a boyfriend the movie to watch is mostly based on what the girlfriend wants to watch. At times there is a compromise on the movie to watch but even then the girlfriend normally has a greater influence on the decision.
Comparison between the three Experiences
As far as the sitting position is concerned the parent, the friend and the boyfriend all sit in different positions with the parent and child sitting at the front, the friends sitting towards the back of the theater and the boyfriend and girlfriend definitely sitting at the back of the theater. The reasons for this may vary depending on the situation.
The boyfriend-girlfriend situation and parent-child situation are similar as far as whoever pays is concerned because it is either the parent or the boyfriend who takes care of the expenses unless other wise agreed, whereas when friends go together they both chip in to pay for the expenses.
As for which movie the different groups choose, the parent-child situation is different from that of the boyfriend-girlfriend and friends situation since the movie watched by the two is on a totally different scale and no compromise is made. It has to be general audience rated and have and educative twist to it. For the two other categories, a compromise may be reached and they all get to watch the same movie.
Conclusion
From the above analysis it is clear that there are differences in the experiences when one goes to the movie with the parent, the friend or the boyfriend. This does not necessarily make them bad or less enjoyable, only different. These differences may be based on the age as well as different ideologies that the various people hold. Based on this, it can be concluded that going to the movies is a different experience depending with who you go with.
