Introduction
Planning is a branch of management that deals with the definition of goals and objectives that the organization plans to achieve in the future. Thus, strategic planning is what ensures that an organization is able to attain its goals through improved performance (Lorenzen, 2006). Strategic goals are often called official goals because they are the stated intentions of what the organization wants to achieve as a whole. Strategic plans are the pillars that define the process through which an organization will obtain its goals and objectives (Grünig & Kühn, 2005). Strategic planning tends to be long-term and may define the organization’s action steps for between two to five years.
Main Body
The organization in focus is an institution of higher learning with a school of Computing and Informatics. The school has an intake of about 60- 80 students per annum and the course takes a period of four academic years. It has roughly twenty teaching staff and six technologists. I am the head of the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) department.
The school’s mission is; to be a leading center of excellence in research and advanced education in computing, addressing global needs for information and communications technology and product development.
The vision is to be a world-class institution of higher learning committed to scholarly excellence. The inadequacy of ICT facilities and staff to cater to the large and rapidly growing student fraternity is an issue of major concern in the school. The students require computers and other technical aids for practical and hands-on research on a wide range of subjects within the various disciplines in computer science and technology.
Organization’s mission: to be a leading center of excellence in research and advanced education in computing that addresses global needs for information and communications technology and product development.
The problem to be solved: Inadequacy of ICT facilities and staff to cater to the large and rapidly growing student fraternity
(Spiro, 2011).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is the desire of every organization to fulfill its mission and strategic plans as this always prove to be the blueprint that defines the organizational activities and resource allocations required to meet the organization’s targets.
