The case under consideration is related to the faulty realignment plan. The main issue is a discriminatory realignment and racial imbalance in the new plan. Therefore, to address the case, it is essential to develop a comprehensive plan of actions that would be based on legal statutes and enhance positive public relations.
The 2010 Racial Imbalance Law may become the foundation of the proposed plan of action. According to it, schools should be balanced. It means that minority enrollment should not be 25% more or less of the district enrollment average (Baker, 2013).
Even though the case does not specify the percentages, it is still obvious that the law applies to the action plan because the schools in the newly realigned district are minority schools that point to racial imbalance. Also, this provision is commonly supported by state statutes. From this perspective, the criticality of racial balance and racial diversity should become the ground of the action plan. As for the related legal actions, they may involve seeking the support of either local of the Supreme Court in case of proving that racial imbalance is significant (Emanuel, 2016).
Speaking of personal ethical considerations, the main issue is that the new plan is a discriminatory one. It is represented not only in promoting racial imbalance in school districts but also in the very fact that it was not discussed properly and nothing was known about it before the meeting. Therefore, it is obvious that the voting outcomes were contrived because most of the superintendents were familiar with the proposed plan, although it was not discussed. Another critical matter of concern is the lack of social support due to negative public relations connected to the realignment plan. In this way, it is essential to enhance relations.
To achieve this, it is advisable to cooperate with the other two superintendents who voted against the novelty. Their role is to seek the support of families and influential people in their district to point to the presentation of untruthful facts in the local press. Besides, they are recommended to issue reports that would prove that racial imbalance is significant to draw attention to the unethical and illegal voting outcomes. The main goal is to highlight that the public is not faceless. Instead, it is made of individuals who should be respected in their right to racial equality and having access to truthful information (Watson, 2017).
Also, to enhance the public relations, it is essential to establish the channel for adequate exchange of information between the public and the schools to point that they are valued (Smith, 2017). It may be achieved by using social networks.
More than that, it is essential to keep the board of education up-to-date. It can be achieved by conducting timely meetings to present reports on current progress. The main role of the board of education is to offer potentially productive ideas for coping with the challenge and succeed in the new realignment. Furthermore, its role is to enhance cooperation with teachers so that they support the protest (Kompf & Denicolo, 2013). Finally, the role of the board of education is to become the link between the public and the schools by launching channels for exchanging information and paying attention to their adequate and effective operation.
