Edwards, Haley Sweetland. “The Life of the American Teacher: High Demands. Low Pay. And a Long Fight Ahead.” Time International, vol. 192, no. 12, 2018, pp. 26–33.

The author of this article is the editor of the Time magazine Haley Sweetland Edwards. She received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Yale University and went on to earn a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. Her articles have appeared in various journals, demonstrating her as a reliable source. The article The Life of the American Teacher: High Demands. Low Pay. And A Long Fight Ahead describes the problem of a significant reduction in teachers’ salaries, despite maintaining or increasing the requirements directly to the teachers themselves. In total, teachers’ wages for the year have significantly decreased now compared to previous years.

With the reduction of wages, teachers’ expenses remained, which had a significant impact on their lives. They are forced to give up some benefits that they will not be able to pay for now. In 2016, the teacher’s salary was 20% less than the salary of other employees (Edwards 4). This is highly unfair since teachers give people the opportunity to get an education that will help them get a respectable profession in the future.

This article aims to demonstrate how unfairly the authorities treat the distribution of wages for people whose professions are necessary. Probably, after reading this article, some women and men who plan to become teachers will think and may change their decision. In the future, this may lead to the fact that some people with the talent to teach will abandon this profession, and the education system will deteriorate. In order for the problem of low salaries for teachers to be solved, the state authorities need to rethink the cost-sharing policy. An increase in wages would increase teachers’ motivation and make education better.
