Globalization is a multifaceted occurrence that has both negative and positive consequences for the countries it affects, leading to controversial discussions. On the one hand, fast food chains like McDonald’s are at risk of pushing local cafés away, leading the latter to bankruptcy (Module 5, n. d.). This aspect makes the concerns regarding globalization understandable, as it may put severe pressure on foreign countries, depriving them of their identity. However, the positive side is that those fast food chains are actually mindful of the audience’s needs, e.g. Chinese McDonald’s serves food based on scientific standards, maintaining equal quality for all meals, and Japanese McDonald’s serves the Teriyaki Burger in its facilities (Module 5; Yan, 2020). Thus, the opinion that foreign cultures risk being endangered by chains such as McDonald’s is somewhat misguided, as they would not have survived without catering to the requirements of other countries.
