Introduction

Different people bring up their children in different ways based on their cultures. As a result, children grow up knowing that certain community or culture is good or bad based on how they were taught by their parents. They also grow knowing things that are good and bad according to their culture. Depending on the way different cultures relate with each other, one culture may prejudice the other. A culture may start hating the other for no reason and carry forward this idea to its subsequent generations. There are some cultures that are more prejudice than others. Hi has been the reason behind conflicts and mass killings that are experienced in the world. A society attributes all its suffering to another leading to the two societies not being in good terms. Eventually, the two cultures end up being long-term enemies. This paper aims at looking at some of the reasons whey some cultures are more prejudice than others.

Why some cultures are more prejudice than others

Among the factors that make one culture more prejudice is poverty. A culture languishing in poverty and other forms of suffering may associate all its suffering to another culture that it finds to be in a better situation. For instance, if the two cultures had in the past interacted in a negative way, the poor culture directs all the blame to the well up culture. This has been the case witnessed with respect to races. Those races that were once discriminated and are currently poor, they tend to be more prejudice (Shapiro, p. 85). All their blame is laid on the race that they were once their subjects of discrimination. A good example is the African American culture in United States. It comprise of people who were once slaves to the whites. Despite the slavery being abolished and people from this culture being given an opportunity to get decent jobs, most of them still languish in poverty. It is difficult for them to get good jobs in the country.

There is a common believe by African Americans that their poverty resulted from the whites as the whites believed that they are not capable of doing equal jobs with them (Shapiro, p. 92). The whites were not willing to employ the blacks despite them being qualified for the job. Consequently, most of the blacks ended engaging in informal employments that gave them meager salary. This believe among the African Americans led to most of them not looking for ways to improve their living standards as they believed they could not overcome their poverty without the help of the whites.

Victimization is another factor that leads to one culture being more prejudice. A culture that has for many years been victimized tends to carry forward that hatred for many generations. Despite the victimizer stopping his or her victimization and pledging not to repeat it again, the victimized culture continues hating their victimizer. This culture does not want to relate with its victimizer in any way and looks for all means possible to ensure that they do not interact. It is what happens with the Blacks in United States. Due to them being victimized during the slavery period, they do not like to be related to the whites in any way (Shapiro, pp. 99-106). This has gone to an extent that African Americans have come up with varied conspiracy theories about the whites. They attribute all the evils that rock them to the whites.
