Australia is a nation that is known for the rich culture that it has maintained despite the waves of modernization that continue to sweep the world. The country has cherished the fact that culture was the basis on which the nation was founded and that it would never be done away with. Cultural aspects that cannot be practiced by the nation have been preserved to be a sense of inspiration to the upcoming generations. The country has continued to welcome different cultures as long as the same is not used as an alternative for a criminal offense. The law is specific in the way it handles offensive practices and thus making people take the necessary precautions even as they embrace diversity.
Australia can be referred to as a country of diversity that has gone through a number of changes that have shaped it into what it is today. There are a number of activities that are mostly cherished by the people and considered to be the main ones that have made the country to be what it is today. Most of these events are political moments when the country was experiencing changes in leadership. There are also a number of people who are considered heroes of the nation that have given Australia its current shape. Culture and identity cannot be separated, and Australia being a multicultural nation, this aspect is taken seriously by the people. Despite the modernization that is being experienced by the world, Australia has been determined to preserve its culture. Apart from the many wars that the country has fought and the heroes that are remembered for their solidarity, art, and culture have remained to be the pride of this nation (Bessant, 2002).
According to Docker (2000), the government has collaborated with the people and other nongovernmental organizations to preserve important cultural figures of the nation. This has also formed a basis of tourist attraction from both locals and foreigners. The country cherishes such practices because they remind them of the very foundations that led to other developments. It is a source of inspiration especially to the masses that had no opportunity to live in such times. These are also the features that remind the people of the unity that they shared despite the differences in their cultures. Even as the country goes through changes that are likely to disunite them, they are reminded of the people who chose to stand with the nation despite their difference in beliefs. It reminds the country that despite their religious, cultural, and political views that differ, they need to work together as a nation. By considering the kind of love and unity that prevailed among the people despite what they believed in, it shows them that nothing should indeed prevent them from moving on.
This is the main reason why the country has continued to embrace and appreciate diversity. Diversity has been considered as a way through which the country can get new ideas that will boost its development projects. The country has given its people the freedom to embrace a culture and religion that they think suits them as long as it does not have a negative impact on the people around them. Due to the diversities in their cultural and religious inclination, the law has been made to give the people the necessary protection. Culture and religion have not been an alternative for people to engage in criminal offenses. As they engage in their practices they are to know that the law may not give them special considerations. They will instead be punished according to the law; this generally brings a sense of responsibility among the people. People need to realize that they are responsible for their own mistakes and are thus to take caution. The identity of Australia is therefore determined by their cultural values and shaped by their social values. The law has been designed to ensure that morality among the people is not compromised by criminal offenses (Bessant, 2002).
