Nowadays, creative industries play a pivotal role in the state’s economy, as they contribute to the economic sustainability of the region. Nonetheless, the definitions vary in different locations. Consequently, a primary goal of this essay to define the creative industry in California with the specification of sectors and its economic contribution. Moreover, it is necessary to describe the sector, which interests me the most and determine its financial contribution solely. Lastly, the overall significance of the creative industry is determined.
The definition of creative industry is simple and sophisticated at the same time, it could be said that the visual work has to be limited in the particular number of copies and signed by the author (Adler 267). Consequently, the work has to exist as a unique piece of art, which is not to be meant for the mass distribution. Additionally, the creative industry includes various sectors such as painting, print, sculpture, motion picture, book, magazine, and advertising (Adler 267). It is apparent that it also covers other ways of the artist’s expression through the art pieces. Nonetheless, they are the most principle ones.
As for me, I am currently interested in advertising, as it helps determine the primary demands of the consumers and show the creative thinking from a different perspective. It contributes to the promotion and presentation of ideas and beneficial sides of the product (Muller, Alt and Michelis 5). Additionally, the contribution of advertisement and promotion remains high, as, in 2011, the gross output was around $200,000 million dollars (National Endowment for the Arts par. 5). These are the primary reasons for choosing advertisement as a principal sector of interest. It is apparent that the contribution of California advertisement remains high for the overall financial performance of the country, as California has the leading advertising centers in the United States of America.
As for the overall contribution, it is apparent that a significant money is assigned for the development of creative industry in California (National Assembly of State Art Agencies 3). Additionally, California devotes a significant amount of financial resources to the development of the art industry in schools (Talamantez 1). In this case, it is apparent that contribution of California State to the whole economy of the United States of America remains high, as a significant number of institutions related to the development of art operates in this area. Furthermore, California is considered as “Entertainment Capital of the World” and every 6th person devotes his/her life to working in creative industries (“Forbes: Los Angeles, CA” par. 2). In this case, it is apparent that California’s contribution to the income of the United States of America remains high, as creative industries such as advertising occupy a significant share of the Californian market.
In conclusion, it could be said that creative industry includes various elements in the definition. Nonetheless, all of them are significant and help gain the understanding of the complexity of the presented phenomenon. Furthermore, it is apparent that the contribution of California is high to the income of the state and the United States of America since the creative industries occupy the significant share of the Californian market. Lastly, the contribution of the government to the development of the creative industries in the United States becomes evident; as it is apparent, that significant share of income comes from the export and domestic utilization of the creative industries.
